The Japanese, the bugs and me!

Maybe its because I had a chance to interact with Japan in my early days – I went to a BSA World Jamboree in 1972 and I feel close to their culture. I enjoyed the mulitple visits over the years and glad I was a part of possibly saving some of these hsitoric buildings.  But this got me to thinking as I watched the only sports that I watch throughout the year – The Little League World Series. The Japanese are very regimented in their training, style and honestly they are like a very well oiled clock. I have had the chance to work with many talented people from Japan in regards to termites. That same spark is there among 11 – 80 year old Japanese. I looked at temples and buildings that had termite damage and hoped that we could preserve those structures. Formosan termites are capable of doing some severe damage if not stopped. The great thing is that technology continues to work toward that goal and people around the world all must work together.

Here are just a few pictures of some of the work I looked at in Japan.

Nuclear fallout – issues with Fukushima

Nuclear fallout – issues with Fukushima

The minute I read this I immediately thought of Godzilla, but apparently “The Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant disaster is causing “nuclear butterflies” to emerge across Japan.” The story “Nuclear Butterflies” cause stir: Mutant insects traced to Fukushima“. Can you see the rest of the story Mothra versus Butterflies and of all places but Japan itself. The home to these stories from the 1950’s and 1960’s genre.

On a more profound note, I hope the terror and damage is continuing to be taken care of by the cities and government of Japan. My heartfelt prayers continue for these folks that endured that devastating earthquake, tsunami and then the nuclear power plant catastrophe.  I have some friends from Japan and hope they are all doing well.

Movies – my favorite may shock you?

My favorite movies – may shock you?

Movies – There are a few that may surprise you on this list but I think some of you will appreciate some of the weirder ones. Here was my list of  Top 7 homicidal-creepy crawlies movie creatures…  When I was 15 I had the chance to go to Japan for the 13th World Scout Jamboree and on the plane flight I read the book “I am Legend“. It became one of those items that I would read from time to time and then they made a movie of it “I am Legend

My all time favorite is the 1951 version on “The Day the Earth Stood Still” – I did watch the remake but the original was and is still my absolute favorite.

Now I know you’re waiting for my favorite bug movie and it has to be the 1990 Arachnophobia with John Goodman as the bug dude – it stills creeps me out.

Check it out – it is a spider creepy movie…
