Aprehend Bedbugs

Aprehend Bedbugs

One of the great products on the market today is Aprehend a non-toxic mode of action with a 3 month residual. Aprehend bedbugs is really unique in that it requires very little contact with the Bedbug. The product is made up of fungal spores (Beauveria bassiana). It is applied as a spray in a narrow band where they come into contact with the spores. These spores transfer from one bug to another via body contact sticking to their feet and body. Then they take it back home. The Bedbugs are killed with 4 to 10 days, the fungal spores germinate in 20 hours after contact with the bug. Even the ones you don’t see and then penetrate their cuticle.

The thing about this product is that it will not cause unreasonable effects to humans. See the picture below and they are into 70,000 treatments in the field. In my book better than pesticides and less invasive than heating the entire house to +160. In nursery homes, senior centers the people would have to leave those areas and return after 4+hours. See the instructional guides for further information concerning prep that must be done. Also with the use of biopesticides such as Aprehend Bedbugs as it affects target pests, small quantities are effective and decompose faster.

It fits in nicely to our use of (IPM) Integrated Pest Management. Tests results have shown great success and after 5 days of exposure 100% mortality of bed bugs and remember it is effective for up to 3 months. So if you’re a motel/hotel you can be proactive, treat either side of the room in question and rest easy. Call ProBest Pest Management today for a quote 480-831-9328 or 623-414-0176

Disease in Bed Bugs?

Disease and my favorite bug is in the news once again – The Kissing Bug, apparently the dreaded Bedbug may now transmit a similar disease carried by the Kissing Bug.

In a study published online this week in the American Journal of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, senior author Michael Z. Levy, PhD, assistant professor in the department of Biostatistics and Epidemiology at the University of Pennsylvania’s Perelman School of Medicine, and researchers at the Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia in Peru conducted a series of laboratory experiments that demonstrated bi-directional transmission of T. cruzi between mice and bed bugs.

So if you live in the South I highly recommend making sure your screens are in place, wear repellent when hiking an if you have horses or cattle keep an eye out for the Kissing Bugs

and

If traveling store your suitcase or luggage in the bathroom until you make an inspection of your hotel room, don’t accept or purchase furniture with inspecting it as well.

Are you protecting yourself against bed bugs

Recently I stayed at a  motel and as always I check the room, these are a few of the ways I protect myself. No sense bringing something home that you hadn’t planned on.

Some do’s and some don’ts…

Do – hang your clothes on shower rods and place luggage in bathroom. I just leave my clothes in the bathroom, helps with the wrinkles and I have never brought home pests.

Don’t place on bed, chairs  or dresser – if bed bugs are in the furniture it is important not to allow them to come home.

By the no bed bugs were present, they must know who they are dealing with…
