Rodents in attic

Rodents and your attic

The attic and mice or rodents can be a real issue for homeowners. By now you should know that flies are my evil #1 pests and rodents rank as #2. That whole thing of flies landing in your backyard and then getting in and laying on your food just grosses me out. But anyway back to rodents, mice urinate as they walk and rats and mice will defecate almost anyplace. They can track over the ground and then scurry across your food, they can spread salmonellae and other parasitic diseases.  They also are known for the carry of Black Death or Bubonic Plague.

Just one mouse or rodent in the house, is one too many. So what do you do to prevent rodents from getting?

Doors and bugs

Doors and bugs

Doors and how bug get in? Have you ever noticed the abundance of flying bugs near your front porch door, it’s the light? Its not just the flying insects but spiders love to hang out near the abundant food source. So if you switch to a yellow light the bugs will reduce in numbers. This is actually a IPM or Integrated Pest Management solution to reducing pesticide in and around your home. You will notice I said reducing the amount of pesticide because you may still have to use it judicially on key areas of pest concern.

Doors

It’s all about the you being the Handyman of your HOME

Are you the Handyman? How do the bugs get in?

Who is the handyman? Your home is your castle. The premise of todays pest control or management is to prevent the bugs from getting in. IPM is the Gold Standard of that service and we have talked about it a lot. Seal them out, no its not going to keep everything out but it will help. Exclude those holes, seal the jtrim, check the screens, repair the windows and employ a reputable consistent Pest Company like ProBest Pest Management 480-831-9328.

Homes and businesses require constant upkeep, doors needs flashing, garage doors have trim that may need repair. That roof might need checking from time to time. The pool may need a check by a pool service, you don’t need mosquitoes biting your toes. Termites can be sneaky, so get an inspection at least every few years depending on your

Pigeon Crap

Pigeon Crap

Pigeon Crap feces whatever you want to call it. I hate the messes these birds/pigeons leave behind. The other problem is what they leave behind in their nest or nesting areas. I’m just not a fan of these pigeons and their foul pooping crap they leave for us to navigate. I know I’ll get comments from people who just love these birds, OK I get it. Just from my point of view they are nasty. The rest of the story is that when you walk through this sh** you track it into your home. Little children, pets play on that floor = gross.

Cupcake ants

Cupcake ants

Ohhhhh nnoooooo Cupcake Ants! OK so these are edible cupcake ants, but have you ever made something and found ants on it. You may notice them on or near the kitchen sink or maybe even the bathroom. Some ants are attracted to sugar or protein, I’ve seen them on bars of soap (don’t get me started on Tide Pods) and they will eat just about anything. I wonder why they don’t blow small little bubbles?

No one likes bugs in the house?

So it’s no surprise that we get calls all the time on ants, usually indoor Pharaoh ants or as we use to all them Sugar or Piss ants. The ideal method of control is to bait them with either sugar or protein. Then wait for them to carry it home to the Queen. When she dies they all die. Many folks just grab a can of XYZ and spray away, this only kills the ants present and does little to no good on terminating the root of all evil – The Queen. Until she is dead, she will continue to lay eggs and march on.

Bird devices

Bird devices

These bird devices are the newest in deterring birds pigeons away from homes and businesses. I have seen these popping up all across the Phoenix metro area. I will experiment with 2 on my roof, just for an idea of work-ability. I’m also thinking they would work on billboards etc. My arch enemy flying these days are woodpeckers. Its not like I don’t like them I just haven’t found a simple and effective way to keep them out of certain home areas. They just want to drum chimney areas with metal flashing and they can be quite loud.

Craft Beer

Craft Beer

I’m a BIG fan of craft beer, I generally like the middle of the road usually less hoppy and not to strong of a taste. What has this to do with pest control? Well these type of places have a lot of grain and water on premise and this can bring in the pests. Nobody wants pests near the beer, especially me. I’m also a fan of local brewery’s because I like doing business with local businesses just like myself. So what is the key to keeping the pests out of a business like this?

  1. Watch for signs of activity.
  2. If you see signs don’t wait, the longer you wait the more of an issue may occur.
  3. Think outside and then inside, stop them from getting in but use caution you don’t want to trap them inside without a good plan.
  4. Seal up and maintain control outside.
  5. Watch out for drains, biggest issue is drain flies.
  6. Continue watching for signs and adapt as necessary.

Termite – you never know how they get in

Oh the dreaded Termite –

Termite or not? So if you spot something funny looking, just unusual for your house – maybe it’s time for ProBest Pest Management to come to the rescue. Maybe you have seen dirt or sand on the sofa and wonder what could that be? Or a spot on the wall and when you scrape it away it comes back. Call us at 480-831-9328 or check out our website at www.callprobest.com
24/7/365 termite activity. you have to keep an eye out if you want to catch these gals at work?  I can spot these tubes from the street but if you don’t so it everyday you may miss them. So I think it is a good thing to have a Pest Management Professional make a plan to inspect your home. In the South I recommend yearly or maybe every other year, but please have the house checked. They may spot a leak or wood damage and should bring it to your attention. Sometimes they follow a path made by humans and sometimes they don’t, just randomly foraging for food – your HOME.
