GREEN organic pest management

GREEN organic pest management

What’s all the talk and what does it really mean in green organic pest management? There are lots of pest companies that taut that their products are Green or Organic and simply speaking they are not.  The terms Green or Organic implies that the treatment is based upon non-chemical measures and the use of naturally occurring pesticides. ProBest has always believed in IPM and that pesticide use should only come after investigation and exclusion if possible.

Based on  this perspective, to deliver a truly “green” pest control service, only products that come from “earth-based materials such as borates, desiccant dusts such as diatomaceous earth or DE and silica, or botanical  pesticides classified in category 25b by the EPA (EPA exempt materials) can be used. While EPA exempt products may effectively kill pests on contact, they do have their limitations.  They may not resolve persistent pest problems since they have little to no residual effect on pests, especially here in Arizona with the extreme heat.

So what does that mean 4 you?

Scorpions are difficult to control under most conditions and with that being said we have experimented with a product that we believe will work as GREEN. ProBest also believes that any treatment within the home is unnecessary and could cause potential harm to pets especially cats. So this NEW service will continue to be outside only, if you have an interior issue please speak with office. We will use a product that is cedar based in spraying and continue using the webber to knock down webs and DE in the block voids and outside cracks and crevice’s. All in line with a true GREEN service.

Pricing

In line with our commitment to keep cost down we will offer our monthly, every other month and quarterly GREEN services at $65 anytime you call. We will also offer a free callback on monthly only. Every other month and quarterly are to far apart in time to offer that guarantee. Also as a side note – ProBest guarantees a true GREEN product.

Old wood

Old wood

Old wood or really just any wood can be an issue for termites and other wood boring insects. Termites can be the bane of every homeowner unless they are savvy to their ways. That is why I believe most homes especially those in the South maintain a termite guarantee against these pests. They are extremely small but can be fierce, 24/7/365 in their work schedule. At the very least if you live in the South get a Pest Management Professional to look at your property every few years or more. You’ve spent a lot of money on that home, protect it and give yourself peace of mind.

Monsoons have given us the rain and now the termites will be working harder than ever in search of food. Will that be your HOME?

Got odors or smells?

Odors or smells

Odors or smell that just would leave your house? This machine is great for getting rid of those lingering strange smells. Its great for mold and mildew smells and old cigarette smell. ProBest Pest Management just happens to have this machine. You purchase a canister and air gently filters to get rid of that obnoxious smell.  Call us today to rent the machine 480-831-9328. Cartridges last from 30 to 120 depending on use and can treat approximately 20,000 cubic feet. The canisters do come in additional smells, like lavender etc but it often times can overdo the smell so I like the general heavy duty canister.

Ken B. used this machine when he purchased a home. He had a smoky musty older from a partial basement, ran the machine for several days downstairs and upstairs and the smell is gone.

Does your Pest Company report on conducive conditions at your home?

Part of doing pest control involves me walking around your property and doing a cursory check of the things I see.

So when I see a condition that could cause further issues I want to bring it to the attention of the homeowner. The issue above could cause further problems down the road by leaking into the home or by causing the roof to really leak especially with the monsoons we are experiencing these days. So the question is really an easy one – “Why keep a company that doesn’t care about you or your family?” Call ProBest Pest Management we will inform you on conditions that can cause potential issues – call us today at 480-831-9328 or 623-414-0176 and thanks.

How is it possible to get water damage in Arizona?

probestpestmanagement20140425_124158

Water damage is a concern across the U.S. whether you are in Florida or Arizona. I guess the only difference is the abundance of moisture. With humidity levsls at 99+% in Florida the chances are greater that you will have issues.  Anytime that wood gets wet and then dries, then gets wet and dries again you can expect some type of wood decay to take place. I often see this damage occurring at roof lines or at fireplace chimney areas.

Depending on where you live this wood damage may affect your termite inspection. So it is important to stop the water before it gets worse.

This is the stuff that makes a termite treater go crazy, you never know what the construction crew left behind.

Water damage to your wood home.

Water damage can occur and ruin your wood home.

Water can be the life blood or it can even cause issues with the way we build homes in the way it causes water damage. When flashing on a roof allows water to seep in, the wood gets wet and then dries. Chimneys are often the cause if incorrectly fitted with flashing. This interaction causes brown cubicle rot, this rot looks like a wood burnt piece of wood. It is really important to understand this action and take precautions against it. When water does enter a home it takes the path of least resistance and often follows a path straight down. This often causes the water to seep through the termiticide in the ground and could allow termites to enter that area. The more water through a termiticide barrier, breaks down the termiticide and may allow termites into the structure.

This fungus also would generally fail a (WDIIR) Wood Destroying Insect Infestation Report, bear in mind that this report doesn’t get into a lengthy discussion on water and fungus but typically relates to termites and other insects. Letting mold grow unchecked in your home can have negative consequences both for your checkbook and your health. Mold spores thrive on moisture. Mold spores can quickly grow into colonies when exposed to water. These colonies may produce allergens and irritants. Before mold remediation can begin, any sources of water or moisture must be addressed. Otherwise, the mold may return. Typically in Arizona we don’t have to worry about moisture levels but if there is a water leak it needs to corrected immediately. Just remember mold is present almost everywhere, indoors and outdoors. As always if you find that you have wood rot please give us a call at 480-831-9328 ProBest Pest Management.

Water Damage can occur inside or outside.

Depending on circumstances water can leak or enter wood in a variety of ways. Improper flashing at a roof or leakage near a shower of bath can result in damage occurring and often times tracing its way to the ground. If this happens it can reduce the amount of termiticide needed to prevent termites from entering a home.

Termites are a threat to your home and result in over 5 billion dollars of damage each year in the U.S. Termite treatment is a job best handled by Professional Pest Management companies due to the equipment and techniques needed to perform the work.

Before you replace the floor, treat for termites.

Before you replace the floor, treat for termites.  (Yesterdays answer on picture – magnified picture of wasp nest….)

So you decide its time to replace that old flooring in your home and as you take up the old floor you discover damage and concrete cracks. Now is the time to call your termite experts because and trust me on this one you don’t want to put down the floor and then discover you need it treated. This will destroy or at the very least make the new flooring look terrible. Here is some damage from termites and some water damage, I don’t know which came first but my guess is the termites.

Nothing worse in my mind than having to drill grout lines in stone tile, because no matter how good you are it will never look as good as new. So please take a moment and think it through, treat the concrete and then lay the new floor. It will save you money in the long run and more importantly the aggravation of knowing where those drill holes are. Because your mind will focus on those marks, trust me.
