What is the Global Pest Market? Part 2

Global – Here is my idea of Green Pest Service

Global – Everything we do starts with Integrated Pest Management (IPM)

  1. We do an inspection, we walk around the home with a webster broom and clean off window and doors of any spider webs. At this time we are doing a cursory exam of the home and property.
  2. We perform an outside service which may include a liquid treatment, granular bait – either a repellent or a bait depending on activity.
  3. We then use a bellows duster to dust block wall bump-outs and crack and crevices which haven’t been sealed. Usually this is a mixture of DE and some type of active formulation dust.

We will treat inside only if there are bug issues within the home and very limited in the scope. (Stored Pantry Pests)

***** Now some would argue that this isn’t a true GREEN service, but we have scorpions and it is almost impossible to kill them all.  So the question is, what if I have never seen a scorpion. Can I get a Green service?

Yes there are many items on the list of Green, just remember that they won’t generally last as long as the other products. Now this isn’t to put blame anywhere but some products we use are micro-encapsulated and hold up better with the sunlight and HEAT in Arizona. So here is the BIGGEST question, does it cost more? Yes and no, yes if you want me to handle any callbacks and no if you don’t. The chemical won’t go the 30, 60 or 90 days that most people want it to last.

Oh by the way, some of these so called Green products – contain pesticides like permethrin. So, really check out what you want and if you have questions send me an email at [email protected] and maybe I can help you decide on what is right for you and your family. What is the number #! thing you can do = home sealing.

Fire, fire and more fire…

I have mentioned numerous times that fire isn’t always your friend especially when it comes to pest control. “Why kill it with fire is a terrible, terrible idea” by Gwen Pearson.

Fire and the things related are often compromised by one’s ability to think things out. People often don’t think before they do something and that is where the trouble begins. Bed Bugs for example are extremely difficult to get rid of and often requires a Pest Management Professional. They are trained to do what they do and that in itself could be the reason to hire a professional.

Sons of the American Legion

Untitled

Founded in 1932, Sons of The American Legion exists to honor the service and sacrifice of Legionnaires. Sons of The American Legion members include males of all ages whose parents or grandparents served in the U.S. military and were eligible for American Legion membership.

My Grandfather Harry Birkemeyer served in the military and to honor his service and continue the tradition of volunteering I joined The American Legion Post 107 and I currently have been contributing by writing a home seal at http://alpost107.wordpress.com

I also have agreed to serve as the Adjutant (secretary) of the Squadron and I’m quite pleased that the Sons of the American Legion has decided to update the online procedure for membership (right up my alley).

I also have spent a few years (15) as a Scoutmaster in Florida served as a Big Brother and served on their Board of Directors. So here is my challenge to you, volunteer and if you do please tell me about your service. If your Father or Grandfather served in the military, volunteer to the Sons of the American Legion near where you live and lets Pay It Forward. Thanks to our Veterans and all who have served.

National Pest Conference – Phoenix, AZ. A home sealgers view.

They are taking down the booths and all the exhibits and they are shipping them back to corporate headquarters and the folks are heading home, so was it any fun?

I always have fun when I’m at a bug conference, I enjoy meeting or seeing people I haven’t seen in awhile. I love attending the classes on leadership, marketing and of course new bug stuff. But again I love seeing my ole friends and share the tales of the bug issues we faced since last year. This year my task was to meet up with the people that either read my home seal or share FaceBook  stuff or maybe people that ask questions.

FaceBook has opened the world or maybe a better explantion is that it has made the world smaller. I get asked questions about how we do business in the U.S. and get asked questions about the different types of bugs etc.

Maybe we can all learn something here about the pest industry and world issues. maybe we can all get along and quit complaining about things. Anyway to all my friends that I got to see this last week and the others who couldn’t make it to Phoenix for “PestWorld 2013” thanks for the fun and maybe next year we will see you in Orlando, FL. Here are a few pictures I took of all the fun.

A few sayings we have heard as children about bugs and spiders.

  1. On the highway of your life are you the bug or the windshield?
  2. Every kid has a bug period… I never grew out of mine. E.O. Wilson
  3. Have you ever had butterflies in your stomach?
  4. A flea can trouble a lion more than the lion can harm a flea.
  5. If you sleep with dogs, you’ll get up with fleas.
  6. A closed mouth catches no flies.
  7. Even the hand of compassion is stung when it strokes a scorpion.
  8. The early bird catches the early worm.

Have you heard any others?

What do you want to know by ProBest Pest Management!

DrBugKVBdidyouknow1

Insects are incredibly adaptable creatures and have evolved to live successfully in most environments on earth, including deserts and even the Antarctic. The only place where insects are not commonly found is in the oceans.

The blood of insects is yellow.

A botfly is known to fly at a speed of 1300 km/hr, which makes it faster then an aircraft.

A large swarm of locusts can eat 80,000 tons of corn in a day.

The oldest known insect on Earth is the cockroach. Cockroaches date back 350 million years ago.

It’s not always about the Scorpions, how about visiting Arizona? Tortilla Flat, AZ

Tortilla Flat, AZ

Tortillo Flat is a unique experience and a must see on your tour of Arizona. Sit at the bar inside the restaurant, the bar seats are actually saddles.

Tortilla Flat is an authentic remnant of an old west town, nestled in the midst of the Tonto National Forest, in the Superstition Mountain Range. Tortilla Flat started out as a stagecoach stop in 1904 and neither fire nor flood has been able to take away this historic stop along the Historic Apache Trail. I came out to Arizona with my Grandmother, Aunt and Uncle way back in 1966 or so and will never forget the Apache Trail, who knew many years later I would live here.

If your lucky enough to witness a little rain, check out the flow just down the road and remember we have a “Stupid Motorist Law” here in Arizona. Animals are abundant and can be seen if you look hard enough, lizards, birds and insects – just be careful. Oh and by the way the Superstition Mountains are where all that gold is, so if you find any – I get half. Good Luck.

How did Halloween get so scary?

BOO!

OK really how did all this weird stuff start and how did it come to bear on Halloween anyway? Here is the answer – its because it is associated with the DEVIL and we dress up to make the dead think we are dead as well. November 1st is regarded as a time to honor Saints and Martyrs and the evening before is considered to be All Hallows’ Eve. So from the far corners of our minds and the darkness that resides there, comes the creepy and crawly things like spiders, rats and bats.

Beware the cave of death!

probestpestmanagementIMAG0952

Beware the cave of death! Not really but it does hold the Arizone Bark Scorpions. It is fun to show off these little pests that can easily make it into homes and businesses.

One of the perks of my teaching or events that I attend is the fact that I have bugs and stuff to show off. That is a big draw for children of all ages, they all want to see the collection.

Hot, Hot and really Hot – did you know this?

probestpestmanagementIMAG0945

This sign was posted on the door to myVeterinarian Office and I thought I had to post this and pass it along. It wasn’t designed for Arizona I’m guessing, cause it should read 115 – don’t even think about walking the dog. The dog would explode into flames. I know not allot of  people think about things before they do it, so please remember the sign – the concrete or asphalt is HOT.
