Dryer Lint

Dryer lint may cause fires

Your West Valley newspaper recently did an article on a recent home fire resulting from a dryer lint and  dryer vent and the damage caused by it “Peoria Fire – Medical responds to dryer fire, reminds people to clean vents”.

More than 15,000 fires are caused by that buildup of lint in those vents yearly, and ProBest Pest management has a air system device to clean those vents. This procedure is simple, we insert a device into the hose area of the dryer vent and the air forces the lint back at us cleaning the hose system. We also recommend installing a metal hose versus the old plastic type you may have. A simple clean out can take care of years of lint and crud build-up. I cleaned mine, it hadn’t been cleaned since I bought the house in 2003 and probably not cleaned since it was built in 1987. It was time and I got almost a full 5 gallon bucket of lint from that build-up.

May is Hepatitis Awareness Month and May 19th is Hepatitis Testing Day.

May is Hepatitis Awareness Month and May 19th is Hepatitis Testing Day.

Hepatitis C (hep C) is a significant health concern for our nation’s veterans. Our proud men and women have done their part to ensure our safety, it is time we do ours and make sure they know the risks and symptoms of hep C. During Hepatitis Awareness Month (May) let’s make sure veterans are tested for hep C antibodies. Consequently we want them to know the importance of talking to their doctor.

Here are the facts:

  • First of all: Several studies suggest veterans may be at greater risk for hep C than non-veterans and as a result,
  • In 2013, over five percent of the 3.1 million veterans enrolled in the care of the Veterans Health Administration who had at least one outpatient visit and an informative hep C test result were infected with hep C.
  • Up to 75 percent of people with chronic hep C in the United States do not know they have it.
  • Approximately 70-80 percent experience no symptoms following infection.
  • Hep C is curable – which means the hep C virus is not detectable in the blood months after treatment ends.

Where can a veteran learn more and get tested for hep C antibodies?

  • A doctor can administer the test and talk about confirmatory testing for those who test positive for hep C antibodies. It is important that the veteran ask specifically to get tested for hep C antibodies.
  • Since Veterans may be eligible for free hep C antibody testing through the VA. The VA also has a tremendous amount of information available about hep C.

What can you do?

  1. Most of all: You can join our campaign and ensure that veterans get the message.
  2. Share this URL and encourage others to participate by telling a veteran about hep C.
  3. Watch and “like” as everyone’s messages are blasted out simultaneously.
  4. Follow The American Legion on Facebook and Twitter and visit Legion.org to learn more about The American Legion’s health care initiatives.
  5. If you are a veteran – make an appointment to get tested for hep C antibodies the next time you see your doctor!

Most noteworthy information can be shared directly from https://www.thunderclap.it/projects/41040-hepaware-for-veterans?locale=en

How is GreenPro adding value to our Pest Control Industry and consumers?

GREENPRO PRINCIPLES

GreenPro certified services minimize pesticide exposure to humans, non-target animals, and the environment by:

  • Focusing on integrated pest management (IPM) strategies such as habitat modification, exclusion, removal of food and water sources, sanitation, and making repairs.
  • Providing and documenting thorough pest inspection and monitoring services, as well as follow-up to ensure efficacy.
  • Regularly communicating with clients about pests infestations, conducive conditions, and ways to prevent pests.
  • Requiring specialized training for all company employees who sell or perform these services.

Services that include any of the following will not be certified as GreenPro:

  • Preventive pesticide applications that are based solely on the calendar.
  • Routine, high volume pesticide applications without justification.
  • Indoor pesticide applications without justification.
  • Rodenticides placed in a manner in which they are accessible to children and nontarget animals.

All information taken directly from the Guide to certification.

I’ve been pushing this for years, my regular service is an outside only, inside only on request and based on the problem or issue. We only use power spraying for weeds and ticks. In Arizona we have scorpions, so we recommend home sealing but it also requires monthly spraying, we do use a lot of DE.

Got odors or smells?

Odors or smells

Odors or smell that just would leave your house? This machine is great for getting rid of those lingering strange smells. Its great for mold and mildew smells and old cigarette smell. ProBest Pest Management just happens to have this machine. You purchase a canister and air gently filters to get rid of that obnoxious smell.  Call us today to rent the machine 480-831-9328. Cartridges last from 30 to 120 depending on use and can treat approximately 20,000 cubic feet. The canisters do come in additional smells, like lavender etc but it often times can overdo the smell so I like the general heavy duty canister.

Ken B. used this machine when he purchased a home. He had a smoky musty older from a partial basement, ran the machine for several days downstairs and upstairs and the smell is gone.

35th Anniversary to ProBest Pest Management.

    1981 -2016            Happy Anniversary

Anniversary of ProBest Pest Management – in 1981 Donna and Jerry Probst started ProBest and in 2005 they sold to us. It has been fun and there have been tribulations and a major housing collapse. But that which doesn’t kill you makes you stronger, right?

We offer a host of services including Termite post construction, termite inspections and the occasional pretreat. We also offer pest control, from ants to scorpions and rodent control. we also offer weed control including pre-emergents and the elimination of the weeds.

We are here to lend you a hand on pest control, many people say well we can do that? Many start out doing a good job and then fail to adequately identify the insect or forget to make it a monthly event. We are the experts and we have on staff a Associate Certified Entomologist who can identify that pests.

Does this look like your dryer vent?

Is this what your Dryer vent looks like? We offer cleaning service. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) estimates that 15,500 fires associated with clothes dryers occur annually. These fires account for an average of 10 deaths and 310 injuries and more than $84.4 million in property damage annually.

  • One of the most common causes of dryer fires is lack of maintenance. When lint traps aren’t cleaned as often as they should be, the resulting build-up in the screen or other areas can cause the dryer to perform poorly, operate at elevated temperatures and possibly overheat – with dangerous consequences. Vent systems must also be checked and cleaned to maintain proper air flow for the same reasons.
  • Lint accumulation and reduced exhaust airflow feed on each other to provide conditions ripe for a fire. Lint is highly combustible and decreased airflow causes overheating of the exhaust environment, demanding excessive cycling of the high temperature limit switch and eventual failure.
  • If your clothes are taking longer to dry or if the velocity of air exhausting from the dryer vent hood is minimal, maintenance is needed. Clothes dryers are prone to lint build up if there are numerous 90’s in the system or the distance is excessive.

Why should you home-seal your home?

probest2014-05-01 09.02.55

At the bottom of your stucco, there is a device called the jtrim – it actually holds the stucco up when wet but more importunately it allows your home to breath. The problem comes later after the house has some time to settle and this piece pulls away from the foundation. See that little space, that is where the scorpions can enter your home. Use caulking and seal it or contact ProBest Pest Management to do it for you.

Something sneaky came our way, what was it?

Well it didn’t surprise at all, when you see this many crickets you are bound to see a spider or two. Let me tell you this Black Widow was huge, she was almost the size of a quarter. Rodent stations are ideal for hiding, minimal intrusion and plenty of space until we show up that is.
