Woodpecker

Woodpecker damage can be quite the issue with homes in Arizona. Most of the time the woodpecker stays with natural habitat like cactus and other tree nesting sites. For me its the drumming or the sound of the woodpecker in trying to get into a hole or make a new one. Sometimes they get it all wrong and drum the band around a chimney and it sounds terrible.

Now for the bad news, it is a bear to get them to stop. Sometimes the flashy things work and sometimes not. One of the newest is a rotating device mentioned in previous blogs. Again they are for the birds that swoop into your rook lines. Call ProBest for all your pest needs at 602-249-7378 or 623-414-1076.

Bug Zoo almost had some new additions

While we were cleaning the Leopard Gecko’s tank this morning we found that she had laid some eggs. Don’t know exactly when but it looks like they are not viable eggs. Would have been fun raising a few more little gecko’s. Maybe next time.

Remember lizards eat a lot of bugs so having them around your home is an inexpensive choice for pest control. Not to put myself out of business but I don’t think they would or could eat all the bugs. So don’t forget to give us a call  602-249-7378 or 623-414-0176

Bug pictures via email, text or by snail mail.

Pictures are worth a Thousand words! Wasn’t or isn’t that the old saying? There are a lot of ways to figure out what that bug may be, there are apps and others who offer many ways of informing you on that bug. Today almost everyone has a smart phone and why not have a place to ask that age old question – what is it? So take some time and send us a picture. We may not have an app but you can still send us that picture – all I ask is that you make it as clear as you can.

Here are the ways to send that picture to us:

480-577-2003 office cell phone – text us that bug

[email protected]

and of course you can always send that bug to us at 425 W. Guadalupe Road #110, Gilbert, AZ 85233 (pack it so it would be smashed).

I’m always confused about this – are you? Coral Snake or Lookalike…

I saw this on FaceBook and thought maybe just maybe if I shared this little saying – somebody would remember it and take care. So maybe print this off and save it someplace that you can see it often to remind yourself. Or better yet, “Don’t touch anything without knowing what it really is”.

So has anybody watched that show called “Snake Salvation” – “They shall take up Serpents” Mark 16: 17-18

I know your not ever to talk about Politics or Religion, Politics would it even matter – I don’t think we can do anything these days about it and Religion – we all have our beliefs. If you want to dance around with snakes who am I to say no, honestly I wouldn’t do it but hey that’s me. What I will do is come to your home or business and with a very long snake grabber, grab and take away the snake.

Don’t kill snakes they provide a valuable service by eating and keeping rodent populations in check.

Termites are active now in Arizona

Termites are small, white, tan, or black insects depending on their caste that can cause destruction to wooden structures. I always suggest a termite inspection if you are purchasing a home or at least an inspection every few years just to be safe.

After determining the infestation a treatment is necessary to keep them out, this is done by generally placing a termiticide into the soil next to or under the foundation. This is better done by a termite professional because it involves drilling and placing the termiticide under slabs of concrete. I often see termite tubes in garages and specifically in the area of the expansion joint (as noted by the first picture).

Call ProBest Pest Management for a inspection today and prevent damage or further damage. 602-249-7378 or 623-414-0176

What’s hiding under your bathtub!

Its not always easy getting to a possible infestation from termites, but you have to do what you have to do. Sometimes there are breaks in the concrete where pipes come up. Finding the termites is esential to the cause and must be solved before leaving the job.  Never give up!

ProBest Pest Management delivers on new service – document disposal

Did you Know…

  • The average American uses seven trees a year in paper, wood, and other products made from trees. This amounts to about 2,000,000,000 trees per year!
  • Approximately 1 billion trees worth of paper are thrown away each year in the U.S.
  • Recycling creates 1.1 million U.S. jobs, $236 billion in gross annual sales and $37 billion in annual payrolls.
  • Thousands of U.S. companies have saved millions of dollars through their voluntary recycling programs. They wouldn’t recycle if it didn’t make economic sense.
  • Recycling creates four jobs for every one job created in the waste management and disposal industries.

ProBest Pest Management and our U.S. Contract Postal Unit will now have on hand – secure drop off bins for easy destruction of personal papers and documents. We have teamed up with TNT Shredding – you drop off your papers and documents to a secure bin and they pick up and shred.

When your home was built the contractor probably was required to pretreat the soil before pouring the concrete slab. By AZ law a final grade was to be performed within a certain period, if you look in the electrical box you may find the two required stickers. One should be the original pretreat and the second is the final grade. Now that’s if they haven’t fallen off or are not legible. You can also visit the Office of Pest Management site at http://tarf.sb.state.az.us/index.php?ckset=ok – they started keeping track in 1990 I think.

Back in the day termiticides like Chlordane could last for 50 years, but in my opinion today I think it is closer to 15 years. Especially when placed under concrete without things that would break down the chemical. The outside of the home or that final grade is another completely different story. If nothing messes it up it might last 7 years but that doesn’t happen very often. Water, rodents, sun and the heat, people installing pipes or wires often disrupt that barrier. It is my opinion that you shouldn’t plant anything under the eaves of the roof line, roots and water may affect the home and you don’t need anything else to worry about.

So keep checking your foundation, clear away rocks or soil from the stucco area – you need to be able to see that foundation. Don’t stack firewood against the home or for that matter any other debris. As always if you need an inspection give ProBest Pest Management a call at 602-249-7378 or 623-414-0176.
