Light up those Scorpions!

What are some ways to stop those scorpions from getting into your home?

Home – Seal = IPM

Hunt for them at night, reduces population.

Reduce food and harborage areas.

Don’t store things against your home, keep a space which you can get to.

Always check firewood before you bring it into the home.

Use a Pest Management Professional – we know where they live and all their tricks.

Buggy snacks – for real, no thanks well you should reconsider?

As Americans we often think of bugs and we scream or roll our eyes in disgust. I know people around the world have been eating bugs for years and our cave people probably had to eat them. A company in Denver, Colorado came up with an idea – to promote them in eye catching and funny packaging.

Will Americans buy bug snacks? Maybe… If they’re funny and cute.” As we approach 7 billion people around the world I think we need to really consider some new and novel ideas for food.

“Free Food” After an initial bite, the review is in: “It tastes like coconut. Tastes like food, not like bugs.”

Grasshoppers

We don’t often talk about grasshoppers or locust but I would say that they would be considered occasional pests. Those pests that accidentally get into homes or businesses. Technically a locust is a grasshopper but not all grasshoppers are locusts. Locusts were once known as the Plague of the West and will eat almost anything in its path.

Keeping windows and doors shut will keep them out along with repairing window screens.

What can be done with scorpions?

Does it seem like those darn scorpions just won’t die? No matter what you do they continue to be on your property. The problem is that here in Arizona if the weather doesn’t get real cold everything just makes it through the winter.

So home seal your home, reduce the numbers by black lighting and reduce the food by performing monthly pest control.

Gag reflex on eating bugs, can we as humans get by this?

Are insect farms the urban farms we need to feed the cities?”  Just imagine the possibilities of giant urban farms capable of raising protein without all the issues of methane gas or excrement in abundance.

I’m sure that this is something we just need to get past, the creepy yuck factor of eating bugs. I for one would probably eat bugs faster than I could eat rodents.

These are bugs that invade homes from time to time, most don’t cause damage.

Crickets, earwigs and other pests that accidentally for the most part find their way into the home. This can also include mosquitoes and flies. So generally speaking a good outdoor program will do the trick, why run the risk of putting pesticide into your home air space. Many companies still tout this as the normal service and I’m here to tell you most work can be done from outside and work. Sometimes and I will say it again sometimes you may have to have work done inside but it can be targeted to the pest and limited to a specific insect. Its IPM and it works.

We grow some big lizards out here in Arizona.

One of the highlights of my day is spotting a lizard and hoping that they won’t have an upset stomach from eating any bugs I may hit with a little pesticide. They help me by keeping pests infestations down by making dinner of crickets and the like. We have some pretty big ones, not in comparison to Komoto Dragons of course but hey big is big – depending on who is saying what. I know some people don’t like lizards but I think they are helpful in keeping down insects that might make it into your homes. So please don’t harm them, they are trying to help.

Boys will eat anything, even bugs!

One of the employee’s here at ProBest Pest Management (Andon) was called to be a Scoutmaster at his ward. First off let me say I’m extremely proud of Andon and his commitment to Scouting. Andon never made it to Eagle Scout – he got to Life but he has three boys so I’m crossing my fingers. Scout Troop 835 Gladiators

They come in some tasty little treats and flavors like Bacon & Cheddar, Salt & Vinegar, Sour Cream & Onion and Mexican Spice & BBQ. We do sell them at our office or you can check them out at http://www.hotlix.com
