Remember the old days and vinyl mattress covers.

techimage

I remember those days, those old mattress covers were made out of vinyl or plastic, they crinkled and were hot when you slept on them. Even today we see the cheaper units that are uncomfortable and nothing makes for a bad night of sleep like this. If you’re going to spend money – buy a mattress encasement which provides breath-ability and comfort. I have seen some of those cheaper covers rip just putting them on a mattress and then what?

Nothing makes you crankier than not getting a good nights sleep!

A year in review, my Top pest control job for 2013.

Flies may disgust me but Bed Bugs just plain and simply creep me out!

Without a doubt it has to be – wait for it, da da Bed Bugs of course. Names will be changed of course to protect the real parties, I’m kidding I would never release names. This was a rental unit and honestly I have never seen this many Bed Bugs ever! If that wasn’t bad enough they also had German Roaches and disgusting can’t even describe this home. The German Roaches were eating the Bed Bugs, gross. The Bed Bugs were everywhere, the bathrooms and the kitchen areas. Not as plentiful in those areas but you could spot them hiding in places where generally you shouldn’t be finding them. The cockroaches were having a grand ole time, they were fat and also hanging out everywhere. You could see them in door frames, door hinges and dressers just waiting for a Bed Bug to come by.

OK so you’re pretty grossed out, this isn’t the worst of it yet. We started our portable steamer and started our crack and crevice work and then that is when I noticed the blood running. It could have been the Amityville house, OK maybe not that bloody but again gross. It is my opinion that we were probably dealing with hundreds maybe thousands of Bed Bugs.

I’ll say this again, Bed Bug treatment is probably not a Do It Yourself job – call in the Professionals. Don’t let it become this situation above, one Bed Bug is all it takes and boom – out of control. Don’t panic – just call a Pro.

So what is that bug – free service from ProBest Pest Management?

Have you ever found a bug in your home or business and wondered what is it? You probably panicked and thought oh no not ———-?  Well not to worry, send me a picture. I’m sure that we can figure out what it is. There are millions of bugs out there, but if I don’t know what it is, I can find somebody that does. The key to this, is that you have to take a clear picture. If you don’t have access to a good camera or phone camera, just send it by mail (make sure not to squish it). I have access to a microscope which attaches to my computer and can really zoom in and provide some great close shots.

Please send it to [email protected] or 425 W. Guadalupe Road #110, Gilbert, AZ 85233

Please be sure to give me you name, address, phone and address so I can make sure to inform you of the bugs identity.

A lot of times vacuuming can really help with Pest Control.

We often get calls to rid homes of certain bugs and sometimes I just want to say – clean your house first. Its all in the approach to a customer, I have always believed that a home was meant to be lived in. Hoarding though can be dangerous, look I prefer a home that was clutter free but that isn’t always going to happen. So lets just say that your home leans a little closer to clutter than clutter free, what can you do?

  • If you have carpet vacuum often and make sure you empty the vacuum. We don’t have fleas here in Arizona but I have seen fleas hatch from a bag vacuum and re-infest the entire home again.
  • Carpet beetles are a problem and if you have a vacuum that really works well, it may be able to suck up the larva and they do all the damage.
  • Bed Bugs can also hang out near the baseboard and edges of the carpet, so vacuuming could help. Speaking of Bed Bugs if you want to use DE or DiatomaceousEarth – don’t go crazy this stuff can be dangerous when your breath it into your nose.
  • Don’t use Bug Bombs, they can make the critter go deeper and more of an issue on treating in the future.
  • Vacuum again.

Have you done whatever it takes to keep out rodents?

garagedoorthreshold

Nothing is probably worse than seeing a mouse inside your house, everything goes through your mind. How do I capture it, what do I do with it, can I do it myself and its goes on and on? The best thing to do, is to never have one get into your home. So what can you do:

  1. Repair all holes and cracks in your home.
  2. Don’t take in boxes which might have room enough for a mouse.
  3. Repair screens.
  4. Repair door seals and thresholds.
  5. Repair garage door seals.
  6. Don’t leave doors open.
  7. Don’t leave pet food out.

If they are already in the home, glue boards do work but be careful if you have pets or children. Never, never use baits inside a home. Never, never use baits inside a home, yes I said that twice.

Movie to hit the BIG screen – “Big Ass Spider”

I know what you are going to say and I’m probably saying it myself but you know I’m going to see it. Big Ass Spider is set to be released to DVD on January 7th and included above is the first 3 minutes. So judge for yourself, will you or won’t you see it? If you do please post some comments below.

Why are mattress encasements so important?

MicronOne

There is an old saying and I’m not sure of the truth, but here it is ” A mattress doubles its weight due to dust mites and their debris in 10 years“. Now with that said, I do believe that a mattress not sealed accumulates debris like sweat, urine spills from babies or pets, shed skin and dust mites. Now doesn’t it just make  sense to cover the mattress.

So lets say you purchase the mattress for $800 and within the first 3 months that stuff above happens and you know it will. If you had an encasement that was able to eliminate all microscopic toxins, allergens, dust mites, bed bugs and was breathable, lockable and waterproof wouldn’t you want it for your comfort?

Bed Bugs will hide anywhere.

They hide in the dark or do they?

hide     hide

They hide how about you? Are you being bitten by something as you sleep or rest in that couch or sofa? Do you have bite marks on your body or that of a family member? Have you visited some place recently or had someone visit you?

If you answered yes to those first two questions you might have Bed Bugs. Don’t panic, become an investigator and check before you call a  Pest Management Professional. If you find bed bugs, save them or take pictures. This helps the pest control technician to verify and then come up with the protocol to treat them.

It’s cold outside, is something looking to get in?

I’m not talking about the Zombie Apocalypse but I guess it couldn’t hurt if I mentioned it. So just like keeping the Zombies out it is important to keep out the other stuff trying to get in. Rodents only need a hole the size of a dime to a quarter, birds and bats can also squeeze into tiny little holes or crevices. I have alwaya been a advocate of a homeowner checkking their home at least quarterly but depending on the weather maybe monthly.

Remember its not just about wildlife, its about the critters that attach or become frequent nesting partners with them. Ticks, fleas, batbugs, kissing bugs or other parasites may want to make your home theirs, especially if you finally get rid of their food. I’ve had folks tell me, I don’t care if birds live in my attic, they won’t hurt me – maybe or maybe not? I personally wouldn’t take the risk, but hey that’s me.

So please check your home, just like Santa checks his list. So Merry christmas to all and to all a good night. May your Christmas holiday be rodent and bug free.

Look what I found in the dumpster?

probestpestmanagementIMAG0311 People don’t often throw out good stuff and the finding of a used mattress in the dumpster triggered my mind to investigate. I was right, I found evidence of bed bug fecal spotting. So I know right off the bat that somebody has an infestation of bed bugs. Throwing away the mattress probably won’t solve the problem, it might but probably not. Most people think that since they are called bed bugs, they only live on beds and that is just not so.

So I’m going to give you my number 1 best recommendation on mattresses and box springs. Buy mattress covers, its worth the money. We sell them at our office.
