Prescott, Arizona

This is one of my absolute favorites places in Arizona. Prescott (natives say Prescitt) served as the first territorial capital in 1863 and the courthouse  is worth a tour. Across the street is the historic section (Whiskey Row) including a saloon with gun-slingers present from time to time and occasionally there are events surrounding the area of the courthouse. They host wine tasting events and art fairs with some rather different and interesting art collections. Check out the Palace Restaurant & Saloon and Prescott  Brewery Company for some great food and extras.

Having been around the world, a desert is often thought of as just a dead heatwave of a place. Our Spring is certainly different but the flowers and cactus all take a spot at blooming. Many birds, bugs and honeybees pollinate the flowers and the Native Americans use the flower as a jam, jelly or even using the plant itself in specialty food products. Cactus and many species of trees have adapted at having spiny or really thin leaves to reduce water loss, so be careful of those spines.

Danger lurks for field technicians.

Danger Will Robinson Danger, remember those words from the robot on “Lost in Space”? Well I was minding my own business looking into a shed/cabinet when guess who decided I was just to close for comfort. The Emu started pecking at my Webster broom that I was using to knock down spider webs and dust from the shed.

I think all field people think about what can attack, but normally you are thinking dog or even the bees or wasps. Its funny because I knew she was there but I think she was just checking me out and my broom seemed like a easy target – better the broom than my head? How many times have I hit my head on an awning or table top, how many times have I fallen into a gopher hole? Well, I’m not telling more more than enough, so be careful out there.

So if you work in the field – beware of those things that might be inquisitive?

Termites – ProBest Pest Pest Management

Sometimes when addressing a termite issue in a home, it really pays to know your stuff. I look at distance from the outside of the home, I look for cracks and often times I have an idea of where they are getting access. I usually write notes to the technician to give my opinion because the adage is generally correct – 2 minds are better than one.

I have mentioned before if you are replacing carpet or tile and you find cracks in the slab – it is better to be proactive dealing with termites. Always better to drill before the new floor goes down. I really hate messing up a newly installed floor – call and ask for our opinion. ProBest Pest Pest Management 602-249-7378

It’s termite season in Arizona.

They are munching at wood 24/7/365 and frankly speaking you know it’s just a matter of time before they get to your home. Termites consume wood or cellulose and convert it into energy to live. So what should you look for:

  1. Mud tubes on your foundation.
  2. Mud tubes or small little holes in your

It’s not always about the Scorpions, how about visiting Arizona? Cave Creek

I love this little place Cave Creek, its mainly one road but it is action packed with some unique places. From the Horny Toad to the Buffalo Chip Saloon and many places with shopping for one and all. There are so many places to see it would take all day, so plan a day trip and enjoy the

Try the fried chicken at the Horny Toad oh and by the way check out the El Encanto Mexican Restaurant (they have a pond in the middle of the place with ducks and turtles) – these are the few I’ve tried so far but all have been right up there with some great food and drink.

It all works if everyone does their job, what is it?

Bugs can and will move if given the opportunities. I have spoken about this before and I train my technicians to know about the bugs in others areas just so we can be sure if one pops up. What do I mean by this statement?

Example #1 – Someone moves from Kansas and they store their boxes in a temporary storage facility. They then move across the country and they accidentally bring a spider or other pest across state lines.

Example #2 – Someone visiting from another country visits the US and brings in a piece of fruit which as bugs on it.

Example #3 – Someone moves to Arizona and brings a potted plant with them.

All these stories could be true and the USDA does a great job of tracking and stopping some of these pests from moving around. A recent Aphid – SugarCane Aphid has been in Florida since 1977 and recently was discovered in Texas. Bugs do move and given the right circumstances will take advantage of every possible chance to move to another location.

While we were cleaning the Leopard Gecko’s tank this morning we found that she had laid some eggs. Don’t know exactly when but it looks like they are not viable eggs. Would have been fun raising a few more little gecko’s. Maybe next time.

Remember lizards eat a lot of bugs so having them around your home is an inexpensive choice for pest control. Not to put myself out of business but I don’t think they would or could eat all the bugs. So don’t forget to give us a call  602-249-7378 or 623-414-0176

Bug pictures via email, text or by snail mail.

Pictures are worth a Thousand words! Wasn’t or isn’t that the old saying? There are a lot of ways to figure out what that bug may be, there are apps and others who offer many ways of informing you on that bug. Today almost everyone has a smart phone and why not have a place to ask that age old question – what is it? So take some time and send us a picture. We may not have an app but you can still send us that picture – all I ask is that you make it as clear as you can.

Here are the ways to send that picture to us:

480-577-2003 office cell phone – text us that bug

[email protected]

and of course you can always send that bug to us at 425 W. Guadalupe Road #110, Gilbert, AZ 85233 (pack it so it would be smashed).
