I often get calls that appear to need a lot of detective work. Here are the facts

  1. Large single story building.
  2. Some type of bugs on employees desk when they come into work.
  3. Several desk involved.

additional clues on my arrival

  1. All desk involved are under one a/c duct-work, there are several runs of the a/c duct-work.
  2. There are multiple water sources outside – water features.
  3. These bugs are very small.
  4. A/C guys there the day before.

my observations

  1. Number of insects before the A/C guy arrived – probably 10 to 20 per night, with the A/C inspection many less.
  2. A/C guy found filters clogged and extremely dirty on roof.
  3. A/C guy also found that the unit wasn’t sealed tight enough, he adjusted the cover and it is now sealed.

my remedy

  1. Very small flying insect (fly, midge or gnat) see picture.
  2. Since the number has reduced, I believe the A/C guy solved the problem.
  3. No treatment necessary, keep eye on issue and continue to install new filters.

It’s not always about making money, it’s about doing the right thing.

One of my favorite accounts has been having some fly issues, so we are running a test. The fly bags work but they stink and I mean really stink. This device is called the Solar Fly Trap – it does use an attractant but allows the flies to be held in a dry area. So the biggest issue the stink is far better from the start of the test.

Used by horse owners, breeding and training facilities, dairies, poultry and swine facilities, feedlots, gardeners, pet owners, kennels, and other places where flies are a problem.

This made-to-last, rust-free, heavy duty trap goes anywhere. Use it to reduce existing fly populations, fly blooms and migrant flies.

The yeast bait is mixed with water and poured into the container at the bottom of the trap. Within seconds flies are lured into the trap. They enter into the confinement chamber and dehydrate from exposure to the sun. When the solar fly trap begins to fill up with flies, just empty, hose out and reset with new bait.

Why is that important, because bugs are going to hide in areas where it is dark and has lots of food potential. This drain has serious and potential problems just waiting to happen, filth flies are just one that could cause a serious and buggy problem. . The problem is that the water pipe is broken and allowing the water to drip outside the drain box. If this is the soda machine overflow pipe then all the sugars are going to cause even more issues. Time to get into the mess and fix it properly.

So you spend all day planning this picnic, you spend all day making sandwiches and all that goes with it – you don’t want pests showing up uninvited. So what can you except in the way of pests?

Ants – well we all know what happens when you spill some food, the ants come ing in to steal your picnic food.

Bees, wasps and hornets – one lone bee or wasp finds the source of the food and they go back home to tell everyone else.

What flies, spreads disease and is totally yucky?

 

Well in general flying insects but specifically House Flies. They live and breed in very dirty conditions and can move from one area to another very quickly. You know how I feel about these little bugs, I hate them! It’s that whole thing about throwing up on your food and then lapping it up that just revolts me.

I read someplace a few years ago that people will tolerate a fly but not a cockroach, not me I would rather have a cockroach in my home than a fly. I’m also amazed that at dining places, they are also more worried about roaches than flies and will allow them to congregate on windows and tables. They fly and can be on a pile of dog stuff and on your food in a second while the lowly little cockroach at least has to crawl to your food.

So in my opinion if you own a restauarant get a few machines to handle the ocassional flies and I’ll make a point of eating at your place.
