Gilbert Emergency Bee Service

Gilbert Emergency Bee Service – Every once in awhile something happens that is a TRUE emergency. Not that you found a bug in the house, even if its a Bedbug, but something that really could cause problems. I can only think of a few:

Honeybees/Africanized Honeybees

  • This happens a lot in Arizona, during the Spring or Monsoon, the colony divides and sends out the swarm. Now typically the scouts look for a place to land, rest and look for a new home. This swarm will generally move on. Once the scouts find a new place the Queen checks it out and they move in. Now if its at your front door, it might be hazardous but put a sign up or block that area. They shouldn’t be aggressive, they are loaded with honey and really not protecting a hive yet. Once a hive is created they will do everything in their power to protect it. Usually within 24 – 48 hours they will move along, if they don’t move NOW IS THE TIME TO CALL 602-249-7378 or 623-414-0176

Rat loose in the house

  • I almost think anytime a rat is cornered or inside the residence – that is an emergency. That is why we don’t exclude a home until we believe they are dead, then we can seal up the place.

Gilbert Emergency Bee Service – Can you think of any others real emergencies? Send me a comment.

Block Walls

Block walls

Block walls

Block Walls can harbor a variety of bugs, especially scorpions and their food. So treating the block walls inside and outside is essential to making them dead. The art od pest control is to manage the bugs so they die before they get to your home or business. So how do we treat?

  1. Arrive at your door and ask any questions about activity?
  2. Using our webber broom we knock down webs and look up to see anything at the roofline. Check your property for other signs.
  3. We don’t generally use spray tanks, overkill of pest and any good bugs. We use backpacks, to target specific areas that bugs hide or harborage in. We do use spray tanks for ticks because they like to climb up weeds and bushes.
  4. We then check the property for any ant mounds and treat each mound.
  5. We then dust those block walls, with DE and/or Delta Dust. Some companies use a foam device to foam those areas. I’m not sure that it works any better, but we use dust every visit.
  6. If you’re home we will check in and leave you with a service ticket or email you one. Of course we will Thank you.

So consider a service by the Leader in Phoenix Pest Management – we use technology to prevent the bugs from getting to you. 623-414-0176 or 602-249-7378

Wasps

Wasps

Wasps

Did you know they are almost all female, the original wasp builds the first paper nests and starts laying eggs. The initial generations then start helping Mom, they tend to all the duties and Mom is available to just lay eggs. I will tell you that I think they are the most vicious in general of the stingers out there. They always seem to give you that look, if you get close. I’ve encountered Bald-faced Hornets (ground type) and even they weren’t as nasty. I also think the toughest wasps are those in bushes, you can’t see them and they attack without warning. A friend in Ireland had some issues with wasps, check it out?

Did you know?

  1.  Only the females have stingers.
  2.  Wasps can sting multiple times, not honeybees.
  3.  They hunt and eat almost every kind of insect.
  4.  No they don’t create honey, they feed their young meat.
  5.  They eat a lot of insects that might damage agricultural plants, the food we might eat.
  6.  No matter how many wasps are in a nest, only 1 is the Queen.
  7.  Wasps are social insects like ants.
  8.  Near the end of summer some eggs start forming into fertile Queens with some males, they then over winter and start again
  9.  There are over 120, 000 species of wasp worldwide.
  10.  They come in lots of colors.

Rodent entrys

Rodent entrys

Rodent entrys and WHY should you be concerned? Mice and or rodents can cause significant problems in many ways and we will discuss them all.

  1. Allergens – caused by feces and urine, mice constantly urinate as they run.
  2.  Bite – yes they can and do bite.
  3.  Damage – yes they can cause extensive damage to wood, insulation and stuff.
  4.  They are also known carriers of salmonella and other bacteria.

Rodent entrys pose issues and I’ve probably have said it a 100 times, check your property monthly. This way nothing should get by you, like a raccoon moving into your shed. Or bees developing a hive that is huge in a tree or under hang area of your house. I hate surprises so knowing what is happening at your place. Whether home or business is crucial to living at your place. No one wants to walk out your door and be attacked by bees, living in a water meter box but it does happen. Look up, look down and check it all from the roofline to the base and check out the back yard and in the front. If you have regular pest control, the technician may bring to your attention anything they notice. I have many times found something either under a crawlspace or yard that needs attention. Check out my blog, every week I port what’s new in pest control in Arizona – the antics of a Pesty (Australian Slang)for a Pest Controller. Bugs/pest/rodents are so serious that they fall under many CDC regulations and Healthy Home Initiatives. That is a primary reason why we believe in IPM.

Kings of Pain

Kings of Pain tv show, you have got to watch this show. These two guys inflect pain upon themselves and then rate the pain on 3 levels – intensity, duration and damage 1 -10. They expand on the work of Justin O. Smith 1-4 with his pain scale. Now just so you know, I’m a wimp when it comes to pain. I think by now you should realize that men are babies, I can be a home sick and continue to moan as if there was someone home to hear me.

So I hear about these stings, I have been stung a few times by bees or hornets but nothing serious. Now I’m not downplaying the issues some people have with one sting but apparently I can get through several.

Now look at the stinger on this Tarantula Hawk, wowzers. This menacing bug ambushes tarantulas, lays an egg on it after stinging it and paralyzing it and the baby grows up on tarantula meat. This flying little bugs rarely mess with us, but if you provoke them watch out for that stinger. So give the Kings of Pain a look and see what you think?

Call

Who you Gonna Call? ProBest Pest Management 602-249-7378

Need a Professional opinion? Client of yours has a pest issue?  A true story from this last week I had a realtor ring me at home at 8:20 am, she had a concern about a relative in a group home and bedbugs. Now here is the best part, I don’t care what you call me as long as you call me. A year or two back I had a Property Manager call on a Sunday. She had tried to reach her pest company and no one would call her back. She called me I answered and took care of the bees that same day a Sunday.

If you know me I don’t mind those concerns as long as they are legit and you’re not trying to sell me something. If you have my card my cell number is on it. Some people say OMG really, yep Really. If you need me I’m available, again legit only and not after 9pm or before 8am unless the rat has you cornered or the honeybees are at your front door trying to get in.

Call someone who cares – ProBest Pest Management 602-249-7378

How many Pest companies in town have their cell numbers available like this, not to many if any? If you need help do you want to spend an hour looking up companies or just have my card, stop by and pick one up or call my office they will send you one 602-249-7378

Again I would ask please only emergencies – rodent in a clients house, honeybees (remember swarms will move on 24-48 hours unless they are posing a Clear and Present Danger) I always wanted to say that. You get the drift, use Common Sense.

Bees need water

Honey bees and all living creatures need water

Bees and all creatures need 3 things, water, food and shelter. It is very important for all creatures and with very few exception it is Life and Death. Some creatures can take water directly from the food they eat. Mice and termites are just a few.

So what do you do when they invade your space, adapt of course? We have tried moving a dish of water away from a pool or putting in a fountain to distract them away from the other water source. Most times the honey bees won’t sting, but why tempt fate, right? Imagine coming up from under the water and bee is on your face or head and they decide to randomly sting (rare). So we have tried the water dish and or fountain idea to motivate them away. These little bees were just going ahead with their business and unprovoked would never bother anyone. I often see bushes full of flower that almost come alive with honeybee activity – “leave them bee and they will leave you bee”.

I have a large account and they have a huge fountain and there are days when they are really active. I also know that most people are not familiar with bees like I am but just be nice to them and they will generally leave you alone. Remember one out of every mouth full of food relies on honeybees, we really need them to do their work. They are also the only insect that supplies us food. Something to really think about.

Fountains and bees

Water Fountains and bees

Anytime we think we are safe in the water, wait that was the Shark headline. Honeybees need water just like us and they will take it from anywhere they can find it. Water fountains aren’t the perfect place and neither are swimming pools. Swimming pools can be a sting of a place if you surface and the bee tags along she may decide to sting you and ouch.

This circumstance is difficult to adjust, the bees don’t want to move and generally speaking they won’t. I have tried placing a water dish with stones so they can get a drink, gradually moving it away from the other source.

Ants come a crawling…

You know that old adage about the mechanic that never fixes his own car, cause he’s so busy or the pest control operator that never practices what he preaches – not me by the way. But by allowing that tree or bush to touch your home you may allow the ants to come into your home by the the millions.

ants

ants trees

That colony could have lived in that tree for years, never attempting to go into your home but that new highway just afforded them that option. In their social hierarchy, some members forage  for food and if they come across a new source like your kitchen it could all be over for your peaceful setting. They will take some food and make their way home leaving a pheromone trail for others to follow.

Did you know?

  • There could be 1 million in their colony, maybe more.
  • There are 1 million ants per person on Earth.
  • All those ants you see are female.
  • They have great eyesight but their antenna’s are the thing that really helps them in finding food.
  • They live about 45 –  60 days but probably have lived on Earth for over 1oo billion years. Queens may live 30 years.
  • If you weighed all the ants it would be more than all the humans. WOW, right?
  • The Maricopa Harvester ant is the most venomous insect on Earth and guess where it lives? Clue is Maricopa… and it’s sting is equal to 12 bee stings.
  • The Red Imported Fire Ant in Florida builds rafts to float during massive rain storms.
  • Their worst enemy is ProBest technicians, no just kidding but it’s other ants. Our technicians are good at what they do, but remember the ants are always on guard against intruders.
  • They can make their nest almost anywhere, don’t make it easy for them. Think about the types of landscape and decorations you place around your home.
