Pandemic – How close are we?

Pandemic

Just what exactly is a Pandemic, according to Wikipedia – an epidemic of infectious disease that has spread through human populations across a large region; for instance multiple continents, or even worldwide. One of the most devastating pandemics was the Black Death, killing over 75 million people in 1350 caused by fleas carried by rats or gerbils (new information). Mosquitoes continue to kill over 1 million people each year and have killed more people than anything else.

I don’t want to be the doomsayer, but the World is a scary place these days. Maybe more scary than the days of duck and cover which I don’t think I ever did in school. We did have Fallout Shelters in our school and I recall them being stocked with food and water. I also need to stop watching those shows on TV like “How the World will End”. What scares me the most is the ability of some to get their hands on weapons, like the IED in Manchester? Is it possible to acquire something and infect mosquitoes and to then transmit it to humans. As Rodney King said “Can’t we all get along”? I’m trying hard to not get political and in this day when people don’t just have ideas but are willing to fight in an instant instead of debating the virtues of their opinion.

Are we the smartest?

We are the smartest on this planet and yet often times the most opinionated and less likely to concede that our thoughts could be wrong. How will it end? I don’t know but anything could spark that moment – a trigger on the bomb, someone with a pandemic and the ability to spread it or as

Abraham Lincoln said “…At what point, then, is the approach of danger to be expected? I answer, if it ever reach us, it must spring up amongst us. It cannot come from abroad. If destruction be our lot, we must ourselves be its author and finisher. As a nation of freemen, we must live through all time, or die by suicide.”

The Doomsday Clock is set to – two and a half minutes to midnight, the Clock is ticking, global danger looms.

Rodent Design Service – Arizona

Is a rodent eating the fruit

Probably the most difficult thing to control is a mouse or rodent within your home or business. I hate the fact that a mouse urinates as it walks or runs, disgusting. It is really important to home-seal, to prevent them from getting into your home or business. Along with the fact of the mouse and their presence, don’t forget that they carry diseases and parasites like fleas or ticks. OK just a few facts on reproduction:

Mice – reproduce up to 8 times in their lifetime with 4-7 pups = 56 babies per year.

Rats – reproduce 4-7 litters per year with 5-12 pups per year = 84 babies.

Rodents on the upswing in Arizona

Rodents on the increase

The last couple years the mice and rats have gone crazy, don’t know if it’s all the rain or great weather here in Arizona. Years ago 2002? Ahwatukee just south of Phoenix had a issue with roof rats and guess what they are back this time in Phoenix. I have suggested for years to do a monthly inspection of your home. Look for holes and think like a pest. If that hole is about the size of a dime, a mouse can get into your home. Believe me if they can possible squeeze in they will. Mice and rodents inside your house is not a good thing. Call ProBest Pest Management 480-831-9328 if you see anything suspicious.

Also be careful about wiring for your home, landscape, pool and your vehicle.

Rodents, who will win?

Have you seen any rodents?

Rodents including rats and mice and it seems like every once in awhile we get them in the Valley, back in 2011 and this last year 2016-2017. Roof rats mainly and they can be a real pain if you live in areas where they have become quite the nuisance. Sometimes we even get Pack Rats, I still have no idea how they survive the Jumping Cholla cactus. They will use that cactus to build their middens (their home) and no idea why they don’t get barbs everywhere. If you live in Arizona you know to stay way clear of this cactus, they don’t jump but they somehow manage to get to you and they hurt.

Also we should be concerned about cabins or sweeping up remains of the rats/mice etc, Histoplasmosis  is a major concern.

Happy Halloween! Boo!

Halloween and the scary pests!

Halloween probably began as a Pagan celebration and originated from Celtic harvest festivals. Over the years, more and more people have added touches of the things that scare them, like cockroaches, roaches, bats and rats, snakes etc. I’ve seen candies that are shaped like all kinds of bugs to spiders. Which scare me to death, the spiders of course. So think about the costumes, parades and the tons of candy which the little Goblins are really looking.

The one thing I’m not real crazy about is those clowns. I’m not frightened by them they just creep me out, but no more than spiders freak me out. Tough exterminator putting on the front of a Professional, right?

The problem didn’t occur in a day, the solution can’t happen in 1 day either?

I know, I know you hate rodents or bugs and you want them out of your home or business today. The problem is, it isn’t going to happen! Those bugs or rodents had some time to reproduce and gain numbers. In the same way the Pest Management Professional is going to need some time to eradicate the problem. So let’s look at a few issues:

German Cockroaches – You bring in one box from a grocery store and one lone female sneaks into your kitchen. Oh and guess what? She is pregnant and in just a few days she releases an egg case, 30 little baby cockroaches and all ready to make babies in 100 days. A German Cockroach and her babies can produce 300,000+ roaches in a year.

Mice – a pair of mice can produce more than 300 offspring.

Rats – a pair of rats may produce 1,500 to 2,000 babies.

If the pest infestation goes unchecked, you might be dealing with 1000’s and no matter what it is going to take some time, period. I truly understand the concern and we will work as hard as ever to get that population down quickly, but don’t expect it tomorrow.

Ideas on Home-sealing

My Top 5 home-sealing tips – remember its the knowledge that counts…

Ideas – but first you have to know a few things….

  1. The inspection is crucial and you need to know what you are looking for,
  2. What tools do you need – flashlight, probing tool, step ladder and are you up for the check – maybe easier to call a Professional.
    ideas

    ideas

  1. Caulking the j-trim
  2. Filling in the holes where pipes and wires go into the home.
  3. Using hardware cloth on roof/ceiling weep vent holes.
  4. Don’t just think down but think up, check the roof and lines coming in.
  5. Check the garage door, both the bottom and the sides – use StormShield.

Amazing rodent and what you need to know?

The amazing rodent

In a 24 hour day a mouse can urinate 3000 micron drops, literally running and urinating as they go.

Do you know that rats are neophobic – that is the fear of new objects.

After giving birth mice and rats can be in heat and become pregnant again in as little as 24 to 48 hours.

Just a few things to think about! So you have a mouse or rodent in your home or business, and here is one reason to call a  Pest Management Professional.

“Buying the same hammer that a carpenter buys doesn’t make you a carpenter”.

Business or home – how are the rodents getting in?

Are rats getting into your business or home?

Does your business or home have these kinds of openings? The garage door is often the last place most people think about when investigating where the mice/rats are getting in. Click on the picture and you will see about 1/2 inch or more under that garage door – great access for mice or rats. https://callprobest.com/ and check out our StormShield garage door thresholds. Perfect for keeping out the rain, bugs and rodents.

It doesn’t stop there, a home-seal and consistency in inspecting the structure is a must.

Product for mice and rat prevention

Product Repels Mice and Rats

Product PRO-PELL is an all natural repellant made up of essential oils that contain the smells and tastes that rodents hate. The oils bind to the foundation and are not easily washed off. One gallon of finished material covers approx. one 2500sq ft home. Apply to house foundations, sheds, under decks, hatchways, garage door openings and area’s of rodent activity.

How It Works:

Mice sense of smell is 2.5 times greater than a humans. They feel most comfortable when they can run along side walls with their whiskers touching. This puts their nose right next to the foundation which has been sprayed with PRO-PELL. The smell forces the mice to go elsewhere preventing them from entering the structure. After PRO-PELL dries it can’t be smelled by humans but can by mice for up to 60 days.
