Entertainment is entertainment! Not so, you say! Well how about entertainment is in the eye of the beholder? Some of these shows just border on absurd and I realize that the show must be entertaining but really!

I guess what amazes me the most is that people are willing to go on television and spread their dirty laundry in public. I just couldn’t do it, not for any price – sorry. Shows like “Strange Addiction“, “Addicted“, “Hoarders“, “Billy the Exterminator“, “Call of the Wildman” and “Honey Boo Boo” concern me and prove to me either that people are willing to do anything for money or just don’t care what people may be thinking about them. To me these shows are reminiscent of “Jerry Springer” genre and only prove that we will demoralize our culture to absurd-om.

In my opinion these shows are not entertaining, these shows are ridiculing and mean spirited to the so called stars.. I prefer to watch shows that are informative and educational rather than shows that debase their stars…

Come on – what say you? Comments… (by the way I was called by two of the shows in this genre and chose not to participate).

I’m fascinated with those bumper stickers that people put on their vehicles. Remember those “Baby on Board” stickers, or those “My Dog is Smarter than your Honor Student”. Well I’m being sarcastic about my tech’s being smarter but they do get a lot of training to do their jobs. I would stack them up against the Industry Pro’s out there, I think they are hands above on training against the Pest Control Industry .

Termite Warranty or Guarantee… to renew or not to renew?

You just had termite work done at your home and it cost X amount of dollars, they also mentioned that you could renew the policy in a year. Well that year has gone by and you can’t make up your mind, what to do? Do you renew or take the chance?

Well here is my opinion – if you live in the south I would probably renew it. Where there is water and the temperature is warm most of the year there are going to be active termites and bugs. I also believe that it isn’t always so easy to remind ourselves to look for and keep up with things around our homes. Yes its easy to say I’ll remember, or my husband or wife will take care of it. But more often than I can count someone will come into our office and say – just take care of it, we can’t remember or it just escapes our attention.

It’s interesting sometimes to see and read different perspectives concerning pest control. As a Pest Controller I see the need everyday for pesticides but I would say that I partial to the need for pesticides against the things that I fight daily.

I was recently asked by my Chemical Distributor (Univar) for my opinion, they actually flew me to Dallas, TX and conducted a feedback session for two days for input related to my experiences with their company –  field and inside sales department. I participated with 16 other members from across the US and I must tell you it was an informative and eye opening experience. I must hand it to management – this was a great idea and I hope enlightening for them as well. We talked about expectations of online services, field and inside sales and how they could make the experience easier and better for us.

So this got me to thinking about how ProBest Pest Management can seek out those experiences from our customers. Well I would imagine almost anything! They will eat wallpaper paste, sweets, starch, glue, leather, hair, dog or cat food, grease and oils, soap – well you get the picture almost anything. They are not as picky as Bed Bugs who only live on blood! It is important to understand what they eat because if you are putting a gel bait out and they have enough food they may never get to the gel. I have on many occasions had to inform a homeowner that they must clean the refrigerator because there was grease running down the sides and it was competing with my program.

German Roaches (BugInfo.com) are the ones to watch for, here are a few tips to keeping them out!

  1. Open food boxes after shopping and discard the box, roaches love to hide in between cardboard.
  2. Sanitation is the key, isn’t there a saying “Cleanliness is next to Godliness”.
  3. If you spot one roach, find it and see if there are others.
  4. Handle the situation immediatley or call a Pest Management Professional
