Now what do you do?

spider

This reminded me of the many things we do and don’t always finish as human beings. We start a project and it goes on forever, you attempt to kill that spider and he falls and you can’t find him. Yuuuuuck, right! The nice thing about this is that I don’t believe spiders or insects in general can remember stuff like this.

Tom Turpin Professor of Entomology at Purdue University has written the following:

“Sensory memory applies to all kinds of animals. But do seemingly mindless creatures such as insects have memories? Scientists say “yes.” Certainly, insects learn. Insects such as butterflies learn the shape of preferred host plant leaves. Honey bees can learn the visual landmarks between the hive and a patch of flowers. Grasshoppers learn to avoid plants that upset their stomachs.”

Damage from Pocket Gophers

Pocket gophers,  are burrowing rodents that get their name from the fur-lined, external cheek pouches, or pockets, they use for carrying food and nesting materials. Pocket gophers are well equipped for a digging, tunneling lifestyle with their powerfully built forequarters; large-clawed front paws; fine, short fur that doesn’t cake in wet soils; small eyes and ears; and highly sensitive facial whiskers that assist with moving about in the dark. In Arizona significant damage can be done to soccer fields and other areas we play, Pocket Gophers create holes where children can fall into and break ankle or wrist. A gopher’s lips also are unusually adapted for their lifestyle; they can close them behind their four large incisor teeth to keep dirt out of their mouths when using their teeth for digging.

Reputation versus Character

Reputation versus CharacterReputation-300x200

I’m often reminded that it takes an extreme effort to run a business, you have taxes, government things, employee’s, location and the other stuff. All these things matter but how quickly it could all fall apart if you are not careful in minding the store.

Here are a few of my tips for staying ahead of the game.

Stay current with the BBB, they track and keep things in check.

I have alerts set with Google to check my trade name and personal name.

Stay current with review sites, answer the reviews and thank people for spending their time to review your business.

Try to get your customers to give reviews, I would rather have an opinion from a friend or neighbor than just wing it.

If possible try to have a business which you enjoy, many people start a business as a hobby and then one day it becomes something you will continue to enjoy.

Dr. Bug says “Meet my Friends”. Realtor Sandi Nilson

  1. What is your name and business?   Sandi Nilson, Associate Broker with Realty Executives.
  2. Describe something unusual about your business and why a customer might choose you over your competition? 32 years of full time real estate experience.  Almost 100% of my business comes from referrals from previous satisfied clients – and most real estate agents don’t come CLOSE to that number of referrals.    I also worked to attain the GRI and CRS designations which signify extensive experience and training; and I also have  accounting and business law education in my background.
  3. Can you describe a funny story or opportunity that happened while doing your work? There was the time I got a street name mixed up and showed the wrong house on the wrong street.   The listing was brand new, so it was typical that no sign had been installed yet; the owner of the correct house had said “there isn’t a lockbox yet but the back door is open, so go through the gate and go in the back door.”    The back yard had a somewhat familiar, but not so pleasant, smell.  Once inside,  I wondered why the listing said the pet was called “Dog”….. but the pet in THIS home  was a pot belly pig!  After leaving, I realized I had shown “Aspen” and the correct street was “Ash”.   When I went to the home to apologize, the owner thought it was hysterical (I was lucky).  I eventually was called to list a neighbor’s home (and eventually several in the neighborhood) after meeting that first homeowner – she passed the story on to her neighbors!   As a farm girl from North Dakota, I had smelled hog manure a few times before that day but never before or since in Arizona!
  4. How did you come across our little group of ANTS “A Network of Top Strategist“? I was introduced to the group by Lin Bourgeois, who I have known for many years, and also Mary Contreras.
  5. What one thing would you do to improve the economy of Arizona? BUY AMERICAN – the whole US economy would benefit!   And BUY LOCAL whenever possible.
  6. Anything else you would like to share with my readers of my home seal?  I want homeowners to remember that when it comes to selling real estate, there is no substitute for KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE, and INTEGRITY.

Do you understand Customer Service?

Do you understand Customer Service?

Everyday I encounter people and everyday I understand the importance of customer service, why you ask? Because today I might just meet that one person who will buy from me. Everybody who works at ProBest Pest Management and our Contract U.S. Post Office understands this and that is why from the moment they walk in our door we are as friendly as possible. The absolute main reason is who would want to do business with a Grouch or Grinch? I have walked out of places where I felt the person was having a very bad day and I didn’t want to be a part of this.

Now I truly understand that you can’t make everybody happy all the time and maybe they are having a bad day for a good reason. But we all can help to brighten their day. ProBest is very fortunate to have the BEST employees and that is very obvious when you read the ratings and reviews we get. Check out the reviews below and add some if you would like.

1000th Post – ProBest Pest Management

1000th Post

Today marks the exciting 1000th post – Congratulations to ProBest Pest Management, Stinger and Dr. Bug!!!

What shall we discuss? There are a host of things we haven’t talked about yet, do you have any bug stories to share. Has anything ever happened to you concerning bugs etc? How about that movie Arachnophobia or Big Azz Spiders?  Posting or blogging has and continues to be a fun way to pass along information to our customers and friends. We try to provide local and international ideas and postings of various pest related items. Some of  those stories scare me to death, like using 30 bug bombs and blowing their house or business up.

Carpet Cleaners – GREEN

Carpet Cleaner and what is GREEN

Carpet Industry or even in our industry Green is a random and often used word which some people don’t understand. Carpet cleaners often claim GREEN and that one company only uses distilled water. In our industry most of those GREEN claims are just not correct – Pyrethoids are they GREEN, organic or what? What about silica – yes it’s glass particles but it can really mess up the veins in your nose and what if you breath it into your lungs. Every once in awhile I see someone spreading DE like it was some kind of innocuous products but much like silica it can also damage the nose veins. Moth balls are another often misused product – Read and understand the labels and use directions.
