Attic entry points

Attic entry points

Attic entry points, attics can and do cause a lot of issues. We often forget that our attics exist. Especially at Christmas time when we bring down boxes etc. and find that mice or pest have invaded. Reminder – always open boxes in garage, that way when something pops out it won’t be in the house.

Most people are aware if there home has holes leading into the attic area, but what about hidden ones? The people that build you home cut out the hole that the appliance must fit through. But they make that hole bigger and that is where the issue stems from. Scorpions can fall through those holes, as well as other bugs. I’m sure you have noticed a scorpion in the tub, they can’t crawl up the sides and probably fell in from the ceiling.

Ducklings in the pool, oh nooooooo…

Ducklings in the pool, oh nooooooo…

First off, did you know ducklings can swim – I mean underwater and they are good at it? Mom must have set up a nest in the enclosed backyard (block wall) and then the ducklings became trapped. My plan was full-proof, catch the mother and then the ducklings – that didn’t work as I had planned it. Mom was way faster that me, period. Then to plan B, set large animal trap with ducklings inside within a box and hope mother duck comes to the rescue. No go on this one either, we finally had to move the ducklings to Liberty Wildlife where a surrogate mother duck took over.

Can ducklings live in a pool? All the data I see  is no. First, there are no fish, plants…and second, chlorine is toxic, even for us, so more so for birds.

Javelina or Groundhog Day!

Javelina or Groundhog Day

Javelina is about as close as we get to Groundhogs. Groundhog Day owes its true origins to the ancient Greeks, who believed that an animal’s shadow was its soul, blackened by the past year’s sins. While the animal hibernates, its soul is cleansed by nature, and if it wakes up before winter is over, it will see the dirty shadow and be horrified and then return to its den for more purification.

Groundhog Day in 2012 is on Thursday, February 2

Update – Update

“Many shadows do I see: six more weeks of winter it must be.”

Javelina

Not a Groundhog above but a sort of pig and as you can tell he saw his shadow as well.
