QualityPro & Crimshield – A Step Above the Competition

untitled

In 2005 ProBest earned this coveted mark of excellence, only a year after National Pest Management Association started the program. Current ownership happened in 2005 and we saw the upgrade to almost every part of our strategy to stay above the rest.

We also saw the need to become part of Crimshield in 2008, we background our employee’s each and every year just to be sure there are no surprises.

White round object?

A word of caution – Don’t stack wood against your foundation.

I know you want to party but these are not the guests you want at your party. Termites will seek every opportunity to gain access into your home or business. Why then would you give them an invitation in?

A few tips:

  1. Don’t stack firewood against the structure, pallets or wood of any kind.
  2. If you must the put on blocks but don’t let it touch the house.
  3. Firewood may attract more than termites, like carpenter bees and ants.
  4. Cover the wood if possible, let it have a chance to dry.
  5. When needing the firewood, bring in only what you need and if you don’t use it take it out. PowerPost beetles and other insects love to overwinter in the logs and if it get warm they think its Spring.

1st picture mud tube on foundation slab, 2nd picture the corner of pallet as it came into contact with foundation slab, 3rd entire pallet has termites.

What do you want to know by ProBest Pest Management!

Earwigs and the real facts:

I remember as a kid watching the Twilight Zone and being freaked out by the Episode 60 where the earwing gets inside somebodies ear. (Not sure this link will work for everybody – Hulu) – I was scared to death with this story. Then came star Trek with that giant weird looking earwig thing being put into Chekov’s ear.

  • Earwig received its name due to the myth the earwig would crawl into your ear if you slept on the ground.
  • Those weird looking things on their tail are used as weapons, against smaller insects. They are practically harmless to humans.
  • Noctural, hunting at night.
  • Eat both live and dead plant material and insects.
  • There is no real evidence that they transmit disease or harm humans or animals, despite their nickname pincher bug.
  • Earwigs also have two penises! Both are larger than it’s body and if it needs the second one just in case one of them snaps off!

Prescott, Arizona

This is one of my absolute favorites places in Arizona. Prescott (natives say Prescitt) served as the first territorial capital in 1863 and the courthouse  is worth a tour. Across the street is the historic section (Whiskey Row) including a saloon with gun-slingers present from time to time and occasionally there are events surrounding the area of the courthouse. They host wine tasting events and art fairs with some rather different and interesting art collections. Check out the Palace Restaurant & Saloon and Prescott  Brewery Company for some great food and extras.

Having been around the world, a desert is often thought of as just a dead heatwave of a place. Our Spring is certainly different but the flowers and cactus all take a spot at blooming. Many birds, bugs and honeybees pollinate the flowers and the Native Americans use the flower as a jam, jelly or even using the plant itself in specialty food products. Cactus and many species of trees have adapted at having spiny or really thin leaves to reduce water loss, so be careful of those spines.

Pigeons

probestpestmanagementDSC05903   So you did the work and excluded those pigeons but wait they are still hanging out. Annoying? Yes it is.

Sometimes they just won’t move and the second part of the battle begins. May I suggest a tube of PIGNX, designed to get on their feet and they won’t like it much.

I think of it similar to when we get Super Glue on our fingers, that stuff won’t come off and it is very annoying. Isn’t it?

It’s wet and the termites are loving it

probestpestmanagementDSC05947   Grass eating termites love old decaying wood or cellulose. This can be cactus or just plain grass .

Normally speaking these seldom make their way into structures but keep an eye out for mud tubes on your foundations wall on inside on the drywall.

It’s close to halloween so BOO!

Andon was out this last week doing some pest control treating and surprise, something was out sunning. Even at this time of year we all must be aware that in Arizona it’s still quite warm.

I believe this to be a Arizona Mohave Rattlesnake, from what I hear more dangerous than a Diamondback but luckily he saw hit quickly. The weird thing was that he didn’t rattle maybe a bit too cold 80 degrees.  So be aware of your surroundings always.
