Why won’t the termites give up?

That is a great question. I guess when your hungry you just keep right at it until you find the food. Termites just keep searching 24/7/365 until they find a food source. What does a termite issue look like? They build mud tubes similar to the picture, this one is unique because it was lengthy. But if you find something like this call your Professional Termite Company and/or ProBest Pest Management at 602-249-7378

Tick, tock is it time for ticks?

ImageFile087ImageFile087ImageFile087As our weather becomes hotter and hotter, ticks become more active and need food. Guess what, that is an animal maybe your dog or cat or maybe you. I had a question today and wasn’t sure how to answer it – customer asked about ticks in her pine tree? Ticks when born seek a meal and will climb to a height on average with an animal. So maybe 4-6 foot at the most and they do not drop from trees when they see an animal, I don’t think their eyesight is that good.

Here are a few tips for you and your pet.

  1. When hiking keep an eye out for pests, when you arrive home check yourself and your pet.
  2. Know what to look for and the difference between ticks and Bed Bugs.
  3. If you decide to use a Pesticide on your pet, bring that to the attention of your Pest Management Professional. For example if you decide to use a product with Fipronil and then the Pest Operator uses that product in the yard there could be some concerns.
  4. Check out this website – very informative. www.peteducation.com and specifically this page “Ingredients in Flea and Tick Control Products

You need to see your foundation slab

IMAG1187

Termites gain access into your home from the ground through penetrations of your slab or from the outside of your slab. So seeing the slab is extremely important to keeping them out. River rock or rock against your home also makes a great home for bark scorpions or other bugs.

Hey looks whose hiding in your block wall?

The secret to success for scorpion control is the determination and fortitude to persevere. Here in Arizona bark scorpions can pack a good little sting, so its important to endeavor to control. What are the keys:

  1. Pest Control – I suggest monthly.
  2. Black-lighting to track them down.
  3. Home seal your home.

Gag reflex on eating bugs, can we as humans get by this?

Are insect farms the urban farms we need to feed the cities?”  Just imagine the possibilities of giant urban farms capable of raising protein without all the issues of methane gas or excrement in abundance.

I’m sure that this is something we just need to get past, the creepy yuck factor of eating bugs. I for one would probably eat bugs faster than I could eat rodents.

Right at my doorstep, 1st the VA in Phoenix now an Assisted Living facility.

I won’t rant and rave on how we got to this stage of problems “Arizona: State finds filth, Bed Bugs, and the Assisted Living Home exposed on ABC15

If I had parents in a nursing home I would say I would have to really think about some issues. Here is my list: I remember my Great Grandmother on a bed at my Grandparents home, back in those days people took care of their families. I will say that times are different, they lived on a farm and I really don’t recall any nursing homes available back then.

  1. Is the facility clean?
  2. How does staff seem to respond to issues.
  3. I would drop by various rooms just to check on cleanliness and hygiene.
  4. Ask other parties within the facility, people living there and visiting.
  5. Since I’m a bug guy I would look for signs and evidence.

Again with the spiders…

It is bad enough that I really hate spiders but “Scientists find a fish-eating spiders around the world“. (Thanks to Todd for sharing the article). Its actually somewhat cool when you think about it, some spiders make diving bells with air and many live on the water surface just waiting to catch small prey. So why not eat what you can catch?

The bug world is a complex little mini version of ours and inhabited by some unique OK maybe strange critters. I’m sure you have seen pictures of the scary ones but did you ever notice the colorful and intense characteristics of a few of them. How about the art involved in making a web? So don’t just panic the next time you spot one outside ponder for a minute the beauty and don’t stomp it to death – they eat other bugs.  Another critter out for my business….

Pesky pigeons…

Tips for control:

  1. When excluding for pigeons consider the entire resting or roosting area.
  2. Hardware cloth is best, chicken wire doesn’t look nice. By the way you can spray paint hardware cloth.
  3. Remove all the nesting materials.
  4. Clean as much as possible.
