There are bunches of Pest Control operators throughout Arizona, and constantly they are vying for the title of Best. What determines the Best? We were included in a few of those local things, but some are made up and just want to sell plaques etc. This blog has won a few over the years and technically speaking we have been blogging since 2009, now we blog every Monday. So let me tell you what I think makes a Best Exterminator or great pest company.

  • They return phone calls promptly.
  • Did they provide an estimate before they started?
  • I think you should also check them via social media, but again don’t believe everything you read. If they have 10 bad things and you see a trend then consider that.
  • Do they explain to your satisfaction, what they are going to do?
  • Do they stand behind their work?
  • Is the work satisfactory to you and does it look good, did they clean up after themselves?
  • Are they rated with the BBB or Chamber?
  • And drum roll please, would you recommend them?

Everyday I get bombarded with “I can get it for cheaper”, what is TRUSTWORTHY and what does it mean to you? You know the commercial on TV where the patient ask about the Doctor, and the Nurse says he’s OK. I don’t want to be known in the community as OK, I want to be known for the Quality of our work. I use the Boy Scout Law as a measurement of the business and TRUSTWORTHY is #1. One of the things I like to do, is to find out where and how the termites ae gaining access into the home. Almost like a who done it moment for me.

Hey if it’s just about the money, fine but if your going to live in the house or stay in business at that location think about QUALITY. Listen to the guy selling you, does it sound like he knowns about the thing he’s talking about? Ask questions, if you get quotes compare the right things.

I just had some inside home work done, first off I know nothing about what is code and not. I had to get another Handyman because I wasn’t to sure about things and a few things are not code. Yep I’m screwed, not to code. Why do people do that? I’ll let you know in a few weeks about the new Handyman. Remember you get what you pay for, right? TRUSTWORTHY?

Quality is a buzz word with me, to me it’s about your Word. Back in the day your handshake met something. I try everyday to meet and exceed our work, we strive to be be honest and sincere with all of our work.

One story from a few years ago – We did an inspection for home-seal, when arriving for work it had appeared it was done. Good job on us. It’s the old adage, pretend someone is watching all the time and do good work.

CHEAP WORK

Cheap work is what I’m talking about today, those companies that I can’t figure out how they do it.

So lets say a home is about 150 lineal feet, complete exterior of that building. What’s the cost and I know everyone’s is different. I see prices out there at the low end of $298

Termidor (yes you want Termidor) probably at least 30 gallons or approximately $67

Cost of labor 5 hours at $15 = $75

Cost of doing business – NPMA (National Pest Management Association) several years ago suggested 32.5% = $97

Total $239 – profit of $59

For all the liability we encounter are you willing to take in $59 as profit, what if you hit a pipe? Homeowners, if they aren’t making money, they won’t be around very long. Make sure it’s a complete exterior.

Do business locally and don’t automatically take the cheap proposal. ProBest has been a QualityPro member since early 2005, actually just after I bought the place.

Sloppy work standards

Sloppy work and no one should see.

You know nothing upsets me more that sloppy work, maybe I’m OCD but I just don’t like it is Professional or something I want my name associated with.

First off match the concrete, don’t just use white portland and hope it will look OK cause it won’t. Second use a sanding bar and knock off the edges, it will blend better and look a whole lot nicer. Not perfect but better, I use the saying “Would your Mother approve of it?” Knock down the old mud tubes and remove the stain, it only takes a few minutes and trust me everyone will be pleased.

That is how ProBest does their work, try to make it appear that we weren’t even there. Now we all know there is a hole and it will be noticeable just blend the best you can.
