Nasty Restaurants and how do you tell how bad it might be? I usually run into the bathrooms, if it is nasty, generally speaking I’m out. If they can’t keep their bathrooms clean, then I’m positive their kitchen is a mess. I love those kitchens which are visible, if you can peak in that is a great thing.
Restaurants and cleaning:
Everyday someone should be cleaning.
Each day certain areas should be cleaned, areas not used daily should be rotated cleaned.
There should be charts with duties and persons assigned.
Managers should check cleanliness daily.
Degreasers and heavy duty equipment may be needed, and supplied so the staff can adequately perform their duties.
I have been to a ton of restaurants and I have tuned down quite a few. I can’t do my job, if the grease is thick my product will never do the job. Now lets talk about cockroaches, German Cockroaches come in on the folds of food boxes. Once a stowaway enters the property there is almost a 0% chance of the owner/manager/staff fighting the situation. German Roaches can and do change their normal behavior.
Roaches along with Bed bugs are the nattiest of bugs, except for flies in my book. Flies fly and then vomit on your food, they can be in your back yard and fly in and land right on that beautiful steak. Yuuuuck. But anyway back to roaches, everyone thinks they have the silver bullet. In my professional opinion it is a combination of protocols and knowledge is what it takes to combat these invaders. Any house, yes I said any house can get them, clean to dirty it doesn’t matter. They like to hang in box lids, touching top and bottom of their bodies and make their way into your home.
So some advice.
Check boxes before putting them in cupboards.
If it is pasta or rice, freeze box then place in sealable containers.
Even dog/cat food can have pests, check it out.

O boy all that rain, over 2+ inches here in Arizona. Thanks to Hurricane Rosa. Unusual for that much water in a few days, and its flooding everywhere. All this brings the bugs out in force and I’m expecting termi8te activity to bump up quickly. What can you expect?
Termite activity – check your slab foundation outside and inside for tubes.
Increase activity on scorpions, water may push them in.

This is termite season in Arizona, after the monsoons so as usual do a monthly check of your home.
Pesticides are a tool of the IPM or Integrated Pest Management. It is important to understand and implement the correct usage of any chemical used. I recently attended a workshop where this subject was addressed especially with the idea of IPM or Integrated Pest Management. Always a great idea to rehash the options you have when using them. I have always believed that IPM works and should be the basis of any pest treatment. I also wish to address the belief of some that IPM means no pesticides, that is incorrect it simply means that you use the other tools first and if you must use them you do so in a manner that is minimally evasive to the structure.

Hoarding collecting, clutter, junk, trash or just way to much stuff. The problem with this is often the amount collected. To much often hides other issues like cockroaches and rodents. With filth comes secondary pest infestation, after cockroaches and rodents may come parasites and flies. If you know me at all, flies are the biggest yuck factor.
This disease is known as compulsive hoarding by excessive acquisition (collecting). And an inability or unwillingness to discard large quantities of objects that cover the living areas of the home and cause significant distress or impairment. I’ve only had to deal with once so far, a mobile home packed to the gills and impossible to actually get under control without a significant clean-up.
Doodlebugs you might notice especially under sheds or awning small funnel shaped pits, yep it’s the antlions trap. The antlion waits on unsuspecting prey to fall into the trap and then attacks. These little assassins reside just about everywhere in the US, well maybe not Alaska but check them out anyway. They are way cool!
