Spider-man would be jealous!

OK even Spider-man would be jealous!

Spider-man can use his web to almost fly and use that sticky stuff to capture criminals. But Kevlar made from spider silk may help the Police and Military. Spider silk could be 10x as strong as Kevlar, which could give our men and women the advantage. Most of you have probably heard my favorite joke but since it relates here it is. Did you hear about the two silkworms who were going to have a race, never mind it ended in a TIE…

Main story is that engineers in a lab at the University of Wyoming have genetically engineered silkworms to produce a hybrid material with that of a spider. Genetically engineered silkworms with spider genes spin super-strong silk, Discover Magazine online. This is really exciting, think of the possibilities ie: better body amour for our military and police – its 10 times tougher than Kevlar. Science is amazing!

Science is crazy. Peter Parker was bit by a spider, and he had ten times the power as before.
I heard a radio show on NPR about newly discovered properties of web, that it gets hard, and then flexible, and then hard again right before it snaps, the more you gradually increase the pressure on it, and they understand the molecular structure that causes that. Interesting how some of our sturdiest ideas for technology and structure building came from nature first.
