Bed Bugs ideas and protocols

Bed Bugs ideas & protocols

Bed bugs are on the rise and there is not a chance they are going to be stopped soon. So be prepared to look, smell and advise somebody if you think you have found them.

Bed Bug Prevention from National Pest Management Association
  • Vacuum suitcases after returning from a vacation.
  • Check your bed-sheets for tell-tale blood spots.
  • Consider bringing a large plastic trash-bag to keep your suitcase in during hotel stays.
  • Carry a small flashlight to assist you with quick visual inspections.
  • Never bring second-hand furniture, especially mattresses and box springs, into a home without thoroughly examining for signs of a bed bug infestation. You might consider having a pest control professional inspect the furniture as it is difficult to detect an infestation if you are untrained.
  • Regularly inspect areas where pets sleep for signs of bed bugs.
  • Bed bugs are elusive creatures, so it is imperative to seek professional pest control to address an infestation.

Another good reason to hire a Pest Management Professional.

DIY pest control bug bombs increasing demand for fire services, authorities urge people to see expert help

This story is out of London but really fits with everyday life and Do It Yourself issues with Pest Control. These bug bombs have there place, primarily dealing with flying bugs. In my opinion, all they do is make the bugs go into their hiding places deeper and that makes it more difficult to really get them out.

BOOM!

Are you traveling for Thanksgiving?

First off – Happy Thanksgiving!

Over the roads and through the woods, oh wait that is Christmas but if you are traveling please plan ahead for unwanted pests.

  1. Are you spending the night out, are you visiting friends or staying at a motel. Bedbugs can and do travel. The National Pest Management Association “Reminds travelers to pack bed bug prevention tips” you don’t want or need these pests at your home.
  2. Visit the site (All things BedBugs).
  3. At the first sign of any pests seek out a Pest Management Professional and your Holidays should be pest free.

Disease in Bed Bugs?

Disease and my favorite bug is in the news once again – The Kissing Bug, apparently the dreaded Bedbug may now transmit a similar disease carried by the Kissing Bug.

In a study published online this week in the American Journal of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, senior author Michael Z. Levy, PhD, assistant professor in the department of Biostatistics and Epidemiology at the University of Pennsylvania’s Perelman School of Medicine, and researchers at the Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia in Peru conducted a series of laboratory experiments that demonstrated bi-directional transmission of T. cruzi between mice and bed bugs.

So if you live in the South I highly recommend making sure your screens are in place, wear repellent when hiking an if you have horses or cattle keep an eye out for the Kissing Bugs

and

If traveling store your suitcase or luggage in the bathroom until you make an inspection of your hotel room, don’t accept or purchase furniture with inspecting it as well.

BedBugs continue their plight – invading Police Dispatching center

BedBugs force Portsmouth dispatchers to relocate” Bedbugs don’t care who you are, they don’t care if you are rich or poor. They don’t care if your a Firefighter or Policeman, so the key is that you are aware of their tenacious abilities at getting into your life.

One of the best things that I recommend are mattress and box spring encasements – such as CleanBrands

What I really like about these encasements is that they save your mattresses from the usual things:

  1. Accidental leakage – pets or toddlers
  2. Dustmites
  3. BedBugs
  4. Mitigates allergens

Bed Bugs spreading across the US

Bedbugs are spreading rapidly and continue their march across the US. I  don’t always get creeped out with pests but BedBugs do it for me. I think about accidental infestation, maybe a lone bedbug falls into a pocket or shoe and I bring it home.

Take care traveling, check out the room and if you think you see something contact management. Don’t bring in used furniture without looking it over really well. Check out our webpage https://callprobest.com/bedbugs and the Nation Pest Management Association has a site “All Things Bed Bugs”

Other NPMA Bed Bug Info & Facts:

  • Bed bugs can lay one to five eggs in a day and more than 500 in a lifetime.
  • Bed bugs can survive for several months without eating.
  • Bed bugs can withstand a wide range of temperatures, from nearly freezing to 122 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Bed bug draw blood for about five minutes before retreating to digest.
  • Bed bugs hatchlings are so small they can pass through a stitch-hole in a mattress.
  • Bed bugs can ingest seven times their own weight in blood, which would be the equivalent of an average-sized male drinking 120 gallons of liquid.
  • Bed bugs are found in all 50 U.S. states.

Why is it important to keep out the bugs and rats?

From almost the dawn of man, rodents and bugs have been trying to stay close to us. Why you ask, I think the main reason is that we tend to want to stay dry and we collect things like food. Animals, bugs and us want the same things:

  • Food
  • Water
  • Shelter

So when we moved into caves, they followed. When we moved into houses, they followed. So as we became smarter so did they. Bed Bugs probably were Bat Bugs to begin with, they moved into caves because we did. When we moved into houses they followed.

With that movement came pest control, OK a version of it somewhat. When early man found Bat Bugs they might have thought of moving or washing the antelope skin they were sleeping on. Da da pest control, we might never really know who was the first to step on a bug but Pest Control it is!

How do Bed Bugs travel?

Well I thought this was a funny question, but it turns out they travel by mass transit. OK I’m kidding you but in NYC the bed bugs are spreading out by taking every opportunity to sneak to different locations by every means available. Libraries continue to see infestations, theaters and now modes of transportation.

So what can you do? Be aware of your surroundings, if you think you are being bitten take to to the person in charge of where ever you are. Most people don’t actually notice the bite but if you get home and you see bites or welts think about where you had been and call them and mention it.

MAKE SURE YOUR HOME AND FAMILY
