Have you done whatever it takes to keep out rodents?

garagedoorthreshold

Nothing is probably worse than seeing a mouse inside your house, everything goes through your mind. How do I capture it, what do I do with it, can I do it myself and its goes on and on? The best thing to do, is to never have one get into your home. So what can you do:

  1. Repair all holes and cracks in your home.
  2. Don’t take in boxes which might have room enough for a mouse.
  3. Repair screens.
  4. Repair door seals and thresholds.
  5. Repair garage door seals.
  6. Don’t leave doors open.
  7. Don’t leave pet food out.

If they are already in the home, glue boards do work but be careful if you have pets or children. Never, never use baits inside a home. Never, never use baits inside a home, yes I said that twice.

Bed Bugs will hide anywhere.

They hide in the dark or do they?

hide     hide

They hide how about you? Are you being bitten by something as you sleep or rest in that couch or sofa? Do you have bite marks on your body or that of a family member? Have you visited some place recently or had someone visit you?

If you answered yes to those first two questions you might have Bed Bugs. Don’t panic, become an investigator and check before you call a  Pest Management Professional. If you find bed bugs, save them or take pictures. This helps the pest control technician to verify and then come up with the protocol to treat them.

Beware the cave of death!

Beware the cave of death! Not really but it does hold the Arizone Bark Scorpions. It is fun to show off these little pests that can easily make it into homes and businesses.

One of the perks of my teaching or events that I attend is the fact that I have bugs and stuff to show off. That is a big draw for children of all ages, they all want to see the collection.

When people design buildings I don’t think that give any thought as to what may come to the building. After the construction is complete you find out pretty fast that other things take place that may not be very nice or clean. This area in question looks wonderful until you notice that the birds are landing and popping over the edge right into the path of children and other pedestrians. Gross and ugly to a wonderful design… Now what would happen if you owned a restaurant and the patio wasn’t covered now there is an issue with patrons getting feathers or worse yet poop on their table.

There are screen options to cover the rafter and prevent the birds from landing and doing their business on the clients. There are bird spikes and track material as well as a host of options, so please give us a call to give you some preventive options to consider ProBest Pest Management 602-249-7378

Spider Molting….

I was doing my teaching thing the other day at the Chandler Environmental Center and the kids really got excited about the molting process. I did my best to explain how we shed our skin and showed them the skin of a snake, so this video really shows how spiders really shed their skin. For those of us that have tarantula’s – it really is cool how they perform this task. So the next time you see a web, that spider that you think is just hanging out may not be a spider at all – just the old skin. Cockroaches, spiders and scorpions all molt their skin.

Important reminders – HOT, HOT and HOTTER

Well its pretty much hot everywhere in the U.S. so I found this the other day and thought I would pass it along. It doesn’t take long at all to go from Hot to really Hot. With temperatures across the county at some of  highest on record, this list really explains the reason why you should never leave children or pets in a car. This goes for leaving the car running as well, things happens and what if the vehicle stopped even for a few minutes.

I’m amazed that critters like mice, rodents or pigeons can survive in attics but they do. So please check your roof lines for holes or crack where critters can get in. Check for bees and seal those holes before they get in. What’s that quote  – “An ounce of prevention is worth is worth a pound of cure. ” Benjamin Franklin

National Healthy Schools Day

National Healthy Schools Day

National Healthy Schools Day is a great day for everyone to celebrate and promote healthy and green indoor school environments for all children and staff. For ten years, parents, personnel, advocates, and agencies have held National Healthy Schools Day activities nationwide to highlight the importance of clean indoor air in schools. Visit the National Healthy Schools Day website for more information: http://www.nationalhealthyschoolsday.org/ National Healthy Schools Day is coordinated by Healthy Schools Network in cooperation with US EPA and the Council of Educational Facility Planners – International (CEFPI). It is the first day of School Building Week, and both events help promote the US EPA’s IAQ (Indoor Air Quality) Tools for Schools program. This program helps schools create and maintain healthy indoor learning environments by identifying, correcting and preventing common issues.

When bee’s attack – true story…

When bee’s attack – true story…

Africanized bee’s are not the friendliest and nicest of the bees we have in Arizona, but this story raised my antenna.

Read this story from the International Business Times Africanized Bees: Aggressive Insects Attack Beekeeper in Tennessee.

According to the Tennessee Department of Agriculture, a horde of partially Africanized bees attacked one Tennessee beekeeper a few months ago. A cloud of about 100,000 streamed from a hive and surrounded the man, who ran and jumped into his car. It was five minutes before the swarm gave up its pursuit. The beekeeper, who was wearing protective gear, suffered about 30 stings.

This was an experienced veteran bee keeper, thank goodness he had a bee suit on, or he could have been a dead bee keeper. Bee work in Arizona is not – IS NOT a DIY or Do It Yourself job. Don’t kid yourself, because if you start a job and the bees become nasty there is no shut off switch. You cannot dial them back to nice, they may attack everything in the neighborhood including children, pets and anyone just out having a good time.
