What can you do when you find a bug at a restaurant?

 

As much as none of us want to deal with a situation like this I think it is important to address the issue with the staff or management of the restaurant. Why is it such a big deal? A complaint isn’t always a complaint, it is a way of solving a mystery or potential problem. What if the issue was a bug in a salad, was it washed properly before serving? Was it an issue with the kitchen and cleanliness? Here are a few tips for a restaurant and sanitation.

  1. Sanitation is and always will be the key to a clean and well managed restaurant! The kitchen must be cleaned every night and once a month or more depending on clean-up procedures that are in place. A single cockroach could live on a spot of grease for a month.
  2. When taking in supplies, as soon as possible discard the boxes. Empty the boxes into other containers, cockroaches love to hide in boxes and will disperse the longer they are left in the building.
  3. I don’t care what kind of restaurant you are but you need a Pest Management Professional at the very least on call for advice, I really believe every restaurant needs a regular service.
  4. If you spot one (1) bug it is time for action, grab the bug by the horns (its a play on words) and find the solution to the problem. In the pest management industry we use a word called threshold – it is the number of a pest that determines the action – for example if a food facility has a 0 limit threshold that equals shutting down the line until the issue is resolved.
  5. As I stated in number 3, if you want advice please call me. Some of advice is free and if it becomes a longer amount of time I will discuss the fee.

Some fun at ProBest Pest Management!

 

The staff and management at ProBest Pest Management tries real hard to honor and say thanks to all the staff as often as possible. Since we are not the largest company out there, we have to be somewhat imaginative I mean what would the point be to have an employee of the month when there are really only 10 of us.

Amount 8 months ago we did an EXTREME AFRICANIZED BEE JOB, they were some of the nastiest of the bees we ever have to deal with. Well one of the crew was stung 13 times and another 3 times. Well just a few days ago it happened again – 11 stings and that is with a bee suit on. I was going to show the picture of his face but he had to take the next day off cause it swelled up, WOW – got to watch out for stinging pests and that is why you should always call a Pest Management Professional… Even if we get stung – we get rid of the bees.

So to honor the dedication and professionalism we decided to start a little trophy system.

Just to gloat a little, after working for over 25 years in the pest control field – I have only been stung twice to my recollection.

What do you look for in a Service Professional? Do they come dressed in an uniform, visibly marked. Do they have an I.D. badge? Are they in a company vehicle? Did they give you an estimate on the back of their business card or was it on a complete form with all pertinent information?

  • All ProBest field personnel have uniforms, clearly marked.

  1. Seal up those cracks, holes and any entry points where those critters can get in.
  2. Reduce harborage areas where those bugs hang out.
  3. Keep trees, shrubs and vines off the house.
  4. Check your home monthly for any signs of trouble.
  5. Never and I mean never stack firewood against the house.
  6. Check and repair window screens.
  7. Store food in seal-able containers and I usually freeze it first then store.
  8. Avoid taking in boxes and storing them in pantry – see #7 above.
  9. Don’t forget to check out buildings, honeybees and termites can show up and do significant damage if not caught immediately.
  10. Follow your local Pest Management Professional on FaceBook, Twitter or their home seal to stay current with local issues.

Dr. Bug here, do you have a bug you need to identify or just want them gone.  Well we know by looking at this thing that it is a spider, but what kind? My best guess is that is a House Spider of some kind.               Do you have any clue what type spider it might be? My goal is that you send me your photo’s and or bugs and we will post a picture to share with our readers. You never know maybe you can stump Dr. Bug at his own game.

Even the Bees get respect in Arizona!! (Tonto Natural Bride, Payson, AZ)

Africanized bees get their name killer bees because they will viciously attack people and animals who unwittingly stray into their territory, often resulting in serious injury or death. They are similar in appearance to European Honeybees, the problem is that they respond with more numbers and often times will follow greater distances and that’s what get people into trouble.

As the weather is quite enjoyable these days and you decide to go out walking and the bees start bumping you it’s their way of telling you that you are in their territory. Stop, think and retreat.

If your thinking of hiking in the desert in Arizona, don’t wear perfume and don’t wear dark cloths.

If you notice a swarm on a tree, bush in your yard – the swarm will probably move on. If they don’t, call a Professional – Trust me on this one!!

If you see them going in and out of your home, call a Pest Management Professional.

Don’t panic if you see bees, they are important to life on our planet. We need them! If you are stung call 911 or Poison Control at 1-800-222-1222.
