It’s not always about the Scorpions, how about visiting Arizona? Cave Creek

I love this little place Cave Creek, its mainly one road but it is action packed with some unique places. From the Horny Toad to the Buffalo Chip Saloon and many places with shopping for one and all. There are so many places to see it would take all day, so plan a day trip and enjoy the

Try the fried chicken at the Horny Toad oh and by the way check out the El Encanto Mexican Restaurant (they have a pond in the middle of the place with ducks and turtles) – these are the few I’ve tried so far but all have been right up there with some great food and drink.

Do you own a reptile?

I enjoy a few different hobby type things, like our little Bug Zoo at our office. Did you know this about reptiles and amphibians?

Are there any restrictions about owning amphibians or reptiles?

Since 1975, it has been illegal in the United States to sell or distribute turtles with shells that measure less than 4 inches in length. This size was chosen because small children are more likely to treat smaller turtles as toys and put them in their mouths. This ban prohibiting the sale of small turtles likely remains the most effective public health action to prevent turtle-associated salmonellosis.

Despite this ban, such turtles are still found in some pet stores, flea markets, with street vendors, or sold over the Internet. In addition, children still catch wild turtles and lizards and bring them home to keep as pets. Whether purchased or caught in a backyard, a reptile or amphibian can carry Salmonella and might not be the best choice of a pet for your family, especially if there are young children or persons with weakened immune systems in the household.

Just thought I would share this information because many of my friends have snakes or reptiles as pets. So please take care and follow the guidelines from the CDC.

What do you know about the Gila Monster?

What do you know about the Gila Monster?

Gila monsters are found in the SouthWestern United States. The states include Arizona, California, New Mexico, Utah and Nevada. There are several deserts that span this region and these include the Mojave and Sonora. Gila monsters are lizards and are often called beaded lizards that prefer rocky areas & tend to avoid large, open areas. In these rocky areas they will find burrows & spend large amounts of their life in them. Living in a burrow helps them avoid the extreme heat during the daytime & the cold night. They will eat whatever they can when they can in an effort to store up fat for when it is harder to get food. These lizards just like snakes need to be left alone and relocated if possible.

This little piece of artwork is on exhibit at the Chandler Environmental Education Center. Check the schedule calendar on the left side of home seal for dates for the Bug Zoo – 3 – 6 year olds.

Reptile Study w/Scouts

Reptile Study w/Scouts

Reptile, snakes and bugs. Just like a boy or girl to enjoy bugs and wildlife in general, I have a niece that just loves to play with bugs. Maybe she can take over when I retire (if ever) right? Merit badges afford the Scout the opportunity to learn about certain subjects. One of the merit badges I enjoyed was First Aid to Animals, I worked with a local Veterinarian  and really had a blast. I was there when he asked for help in delivering a calf and still to this day will never forget it.

I think that I earned 38 merit badges, 21 required for Eagle Scout. I had a great time in Scouts and I’m please that I was able to help a few more on their way.
