Established in 1994, the Pesticide Environmental Stewardship Program (PESP) is an EPA partnership program. It works with the nation’s pesticide-user community to promote Integrated Pest Management (IPM) practices. PESP is guided by the principle that partnership programs complement the standards and decisions established by regulatory and registration actions. The informed actions of chemical users can further reduce the risks from pests and pesticides. By playing a major role in ensuring human health and environmental safety.

PESP members are also encouraged to get involved in PESP goals, which currently include:

  • IPM in Schools Program – aims to reduce the risk that chemical exposure poses to children and school employees by promoting sensible applications of pesticides around schools.
  • Landscaping Initiative – seeks to enhance the environmental, human health, and economic benefits associated with landscapes while reducing the need for pesticides, fertilizers, irrigation, and energy inputs by working in concert with nature.
  • Tick IPM – seek to identify the most cost effective approaches to reduce tick encounters and incidence of tick borne diseases by collaborating with partners (federal, state, local government, NGOs, growers) that actively share experiences on pest prevention strategies.

Hoarding, garbage, stuff & junk with pest control

Are you hoarding?

As we live in our homes we tend to collect stuff.  Hoarding this stuff often winds up taking up way more space then it should. I recently tried getting rid of office stuff and that was hard because you never now when you might need something. So I went through and said if I didn’t touch it for a year, I was throwing it out. Guess what, that’s what I did. Never easy but its got to be done – business or home, take a chance and clean the clutter. It is well worth the time and your home will be safer for all.

Just a reminder the more clutter and hoarding the more chance for pests including roaches and rodents making their home inside your home. I don’t care what anyone says just one mouse is a an issue for your safety and that of your family. So please give us a call if you see a mouse 602-249-7378 or cockroaches.

Is hiring a unlicensed Pest Control company a good choice?

My list and answer could go on forever on this subject but I ran into a rather good article from Texas on this very topic and thought I would share it.

Texas has an updated online tool to help people make intellegient choices on who they pick to perform pest control services for their homes, families and businesses. Now if you are in Texas here is the link TexasAgriculture.gov, here are just a few of the remarks mentioned in the article.

Unlicensed pest control applicators might work cheaper but their work can be deadly to families and business employees, officials said Tuesday.

“Unlicensed people may potentially run a higher risk of being unfamiliar with laws and safety precautions and training and practices,”

“Safety and security are important factors when letting someone in your home,”

In Arizona the Office of Pest Management regulates the pest control industry and provides a Consumer link to various and very useful information. They also provide Termite Action Report Forms (TARFs) or a tool to see what termite work was done on a home.

ProBest Pest Management delivers on new service – document disposal

Did you Know…

  • The average American uses seven trees a year in paper, wood, and other products made from trees. This amounts to about 2,000,000,000 trees per year!
  • Approximately 1 billion trees worth of paper are thrown away each year in the U.S.
  • Recycling creates 1.1 million U.S. jobs, $236 billion in gross annual sales and $37 billion in annual payrolls.
  • Thousands of U.S. companies have saved millions of dollars through their voluntary recycling programs. They wouldn’t recycle if it didn’t make economic sense.
  • Recycling creates four jobs for every one job created in the waste management and disposal industries.

ProBest Pest Management and our U.S. Contract Postal Unit will now have on hand – secure drop off bins for easy destruction of personal papers and documents. We have teamed up with TNT Shredding – you drop off your papers and documents to a secure bin and they pick up and shred.

NPMA shows their true colors

I have to give Kudo’s to my industry on staying ahead of the curve, the National Pest Management Association has a Online Program that addresses the new and upcoming technology and updated news. They produced a program a year or so ago on Bed Bugs and have just brought forth a update from OSHA to the change of the (MSDS) Material Safety Data Sheet to the (SDS) or Safety Data Sheets.

The Hazard Communication Standard (HCS) is now aligned with the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals (GHS). This update to the Hazard Communication Standard (HCS) will provide a common and coherent approach to classifying chemicals and communicating hazard information on labels and safety data sheets.

DIY Bed Bug treatment!

Another article to justify my concern of DIY Bed Bug treatment!

I have written numerous times concerning the use of bug bombs, kerosene or even pesticides as a tool to eradicate pests. With all these tools we must take responsibility for the safe use and follow the use directions and labeling. It is very important to everyone for the safety of their families and neighbors. Often times problems may arise from the use of a pesticide and catastrophes may spiral out of control. Health risk can be associated with the improper use of pesticides no matter the good intentions.

You must follow all Label, SDS and directions of use with each pesticide. The failure to follow these simple recommendations may lead to your safety, those of your family, those of your pests and possibly neighbors. I constantly hear about fire, overuse of aerosols, mothballs just thrown throughout the house or DE (Diatomaceous earth). Most aerosols clearly talk about the size of the room and you just have to trust the chemical manufactures who produce this pesticide that it works at label recommendations.

One of my favorite stories is when I go to a house for the first time and I see white powder all around the home. Products like dust are to be applied into cracks and crevices, not spread everywhere were they may come into contact with children and or pets. Many products like mothballs are supposed to be in areas where you shouldn’t breath it in on a daily basis, hidden away in a closet properly sealed with door frame and bottom sweeps. All this with the intent of not breathing in pesticide fumes.
