Twas the night before Christmas and not a creature was stirring

Oh yes they are, and we all need to be aware they are always out there and wanting into our cozy warm homes. What can you do to keep them out?

  1. Seal all holes coming into your home.
  2. Repair screens.
  3. Install door sweeps.
  4. Install garage door seals.
  5. Close flue dampers or at least check them.
  6. Pay attention to wiring around homes, rodents need to keep their teeth from growing to long.
  7. Seal weep holes and check attic often.
  8. When brining stuff down from attic, open boxes outside – prevents anything from getting loose within the house.

Eagle Scout Court of Honor

Congratulations to Christy Davie’s (Univar USA, Inc) son Kyle on his achievement of Eagle Scout. I have worked with Kyle on numerous fundraisers and took a part in his Eagle Scout project. I attended his Court of Honor and was reminded of mine many years ago.

A few things stand out about the ceremony, it was done by the Scouts with some interaction of the Leaders and it was well thought out. One part of it that I had never seen before was a short back and forth by 2 Scouts on what he did in his years with Troop 77. Freeze Dried food was mentioned more than once and I can certainly understand from my days (that stuff was terrible back then, maybe it still is).

Why is a termite inspection important?

Termites are one of those things that I’ll bet most people don’t ever think about. Over 5 billion dollars are spent on damage every year, so I think it is important. The Office of Pest Management offers this article on termites and Wood-Destroying Insect Inspection Report here in Arizona. If I was spending my hard earned money,  I think I would like an opinion about something I may or may not know much about.

Nature’s Assassins: Assassin Bugs

What a great name!! – “Assassin Bugs” – and these critters really do try to live up to it, by jabbing their sharp mouth into other insects they’ve captured, and sucking out the juicy stuff inside. In this effort these insects certainly qualify as “beneficial” predators. Unfortunately some of the different kinds are also given other names, and these are far more threatening to us. We call some species Kissing Bugs or Cone-nosed Bugs, because there are a few kinds that feed on the blood of animals rather than on other insects. This interesting family called the Reduviidae is worth knowing about, and worth being aware of if you live in areas where the kissing bugs are prevalent. Check out further Assassin Bug info from Buginfo.com a Univar site.

Feedback by clients or customers!

Feedback by clients or customers!

I was recently asked by my Chemical Distributor (Univar) for my opinion, they actually flew me to Dallas, TX and conducted a feedback session for two days for input related to my experiences with their company –  field and inside sales department. I participated with 16 other members from across the US and I must tell you it was an informative and eye opening experience. I must hand it to management – this was a great idea and I hope enlightening for them as well. We talked about expectations of online services, field and inside sales and how they could make the experience easier and better for us.

So this got me to thinking about how ProBest Pest Management can seek out those experiences from our customers. We do gage some of our work from review sites like Kudzu.com and MerchantCircle.com and Manta right on our home seal site. You can always send us an email ProBest Pest Management – contact us. Did you know that we have a VIP page just for our loyal customers?

Who takes the heat on pesticides?

Who takes the heat on pesticides?

It’s difficult for me to side any other way than to say Pesticides are good! Many will disagree but the fact is that pesticides have saved countless lives throughout history. I was reminded of this through my distributor “Univar Environmental Services” in a story they posted in their monthly newsletter.

  • When mosquitoes are controlled, you help prevent West Nile Virus transmission.
  • When products help ensure proper termite control, they save you from massive property damage.
  • Helping to keep cockroach allergens at bay lowers asthma triggers for children.
  • And fewer ticks and rodents can mean less Lyme disease and Hanta Virus.

It all adds up to Univar supplying both the products and services to help you improve your customers’ environments.
