Escaped Scorpion

Escaped Scorpion

Escaped Scorpion

Somebody is running for their life, escaped scorpion wanted Dead or Alive but mostly dead please. ProBest occasionally chases up a scorpion or two in our treatment regime. Usually they hide under rocks or in crevices or block walls. So once again don’t put your hands when you can’t see where you are putting them. If you are cleaning the garage or a shed, please wear gloves and be careful.

Its always great to pay extreme attention to the task at hand. Where do they hide you ask?

  1. And crack or hideaway in the house or shed.
  2. Block walls (that’s why we dust those things).
  3. Dark places, so. don’t leave shoes outside or on the floor.
  4. Attics.
  5. Garages.
  6. Under rocks and things in yards. I often see roof tiles outside. Place them against block walls not the house.
  7. Places that hold heat at night.

Things that help

Black-lighting, consistent pest control and sealing up your home – these 3 things can ultimately reduce numbers and protect the home. Your family and loved ones can have peace of mind regarding these stingers. Remember they are venomous – things that sting or bite, poisonous is like poison ivy or things that if you eat it, it could kill you. Don’t walk around in bare feet, wear shoes.

Spray on glass

Spray on glass = No Scorpions

Spray on glass = No Scorpions

Years ago in my other life I was in Australia looking at new termite technology. They had designed a PVC delivery system. It was far superior to anything I had seen but cost wise probably not affordable. I think most builders and homeowners think that just any termiticide would be fine and that in general the way that actually works. If I had a chance to build my own home – Termidor would be the pretreat material. Ideally the above system could be used to inject termiticide under the home because eventually the termiticide degrades.

This new spray on glass like technology is similar to the story above with one exception – the pricing is affordable. The greatness of this product is that it is fairly easy to apply and last for about 3 years. Ideally you also want no bushes or trees to touch the home. This also cuts down on ants and roaches getting in that way. The spray on glass prevents scorpions from climbing and is my product of choice for assisting with scorpions. They also stay in the treated pesticide zone longer and because of that hard exoskeleton it has the ability to be exposed longer.

I’ve been extremely lucky never been stung by a scorpion, many honeybees but not a scorp. So whenever I heard that a child has been stung I always cringe. This is what motivated the team at ScorpionRepel.com to come up with a real life plan. Call ProBest today to set up your FREE QUOTE and get that pain behind you 480-831-9328 or 623-414-1076

Boxelder Bugs

Boxelder Bugs can be a real nuisance and are identified as a occasional invader.  They become quite numerous in the Spring and Summer, populations go off the scale. I have seen (millions) similar to False Chinch bugs especially in tall grass and weed areas. So the key in reducing the population is to keep grass mowed and weeds in check.

These bugs feed by sucking the juices out of the plants and therefore pose little risk to homeowners. Keeping doors and windows shut can keep the majority out but since they are little they often sneak by. The use of screens is extremely beneficial and is considered (IPM) Integrated Pest Management. Reduce and seal cracks, electrical outlets can be sealed with caulking and check the jtrim along the stucco edge of your home. You can also seal all holes on exterior and interior of the home.

Boxelder Bugs don’t bite, but since they have a piercing suck mouth part they could possibly puncture the skin. The ideal treatment is a barrier pest control treatment which will help to reduce numbers. They are also a prey of scorpions and spiders. So keeping those numbers down is essential in keeping your home bug free. As always please call ProBest Pest Management 480-831-9328 or 623-414-1076

Spider webs

Spider webs and spiders

Spider webs are the worst, you’re walking through the woods and boom – spider web. You’re in  crawlspace and boom spider web. You’re in your garage and you are looking for a tool and you encounter a spider web – freaks you out. Yep, been there. Black Widow webs are crinkly and most often in a complete mess in direction. Sometimes you will find a egg sac and sometimes even the mama upside down just hanging out waiting to bite you. (They don’t do that).

Wear gloves ALWAYS when you are doing yard-work or working in garage.

When you’re hiking in the wood carry a stick ahead of you, by the way this also serves as a bear stick – I’m kidding.

Keep your garage area tidy, less chance for spiders to pop up.

Keep doors and windows closed and door trim in place.

Coyotes out on local walk

Coyotes, looking for food.

This morning as I was out and about, I ran into a few friends. Not unusual for coyotes to be out during the day, they are opportunistic. On average they weigh between 18 and 40 pounds and did you know that they have mated with dogs causing a coydog.

They often will hunt in small groups and that is why you must be cautious while your pets are outside. Their territory may be up to 9 miles and often hunt small prey. They do carry a few diseases and parasites, so you should steer clear.

I have seen them in all parts of the country.

Hey how did that Cicada Killer get in my home?

cicadakiller20140731_104127_resized

Cicada Killer – Wasp or Hornet? Wasp it is.

Large digger wasp (inch to inch and a half) and solitary in nature. Females look for cicadas and then dig a hole and lay one egg on that poor little cicada. That little larva eats the cicada and then pupates and finally in the Spring digs it’s way out and looks for a mate.

So probably just accidentally flew into a door which was open and then became trapped. I’ve heard that they seldom sting, the one in my office looked mad and if it was able to get out I think it would have gone after me. OK probably not but if able to release it would go on its way to find some more cicadas, helping with pest control.

It isn’t true is it – BIG bugs?

At any time, it is estimated that there are some 10 quintillion (10,000,000,000,000,000,000) individual insects alive.

In the United States, the number of described species is approximately 91,000. The undescribed species of insects in the United States, however, is estimated at some 73,000.

According to Smithsonian Institutions

According to all the reports I have seen or heard it is impossible for insects to grow to extreme sizes due to the lack of oxygen within the environment. That would be my luck, to run into a spider that was over 4 foot. “Giant Megloptera found – Bigger bugs being identified” Make sure you watch both videos, it is wicked scary!

Do you have Solar on your roof?

birdbarriersolar1

Those pesky pigeons just won’t quit will they? You decided to upgrade and put Solar on the home and know they have taken up under the Solar panels. This is the fix to getting those birds off your roof. Once pigeons have decided to make your roof their home they won’t ever give up unless you make them move.

Why won’t pigeons leave?

  1. They are generational – if born on your roof they will continue to think of your home as their home.
  2. They want and need the same things you and I want – food, water and shelter.
  3. They prefer to have their backs against a wall, gives them an advantage over birds of prey.

Thanks to Bird Barrier for this photo, call ProBest Pest Management to help solve those bird issues 480-831-9328 or 623-414-0176.
